    Dog walking

Usually I only walk Storm when we have him on a Friday if I feel like it as he’s always had at least a hours walk on the morning , SIL & DD love their walks.

This week they are on holiday so it’s up to me to walk him twice a day.
That's fine until it’s like this morning and we got caught in heavy rain , I only had a thin pac a Mac on so I was soaked through.

I must be more equipped for walking him.

Not so bad next week as Monday to Friday DD has arranged for the dog walker to pick him up at 8 .30 every morning ,
she did it last year and the dog walker has him out at least 2 hours so he’s not bothered if he doesn’t get a walk at tea time.

Daisy will know how far you can walk without thinking , but I’m not used to it so I’m like a creaky old door when we get in 🤣🤣

Its times like this I realise how unfit I am .

How long have you got Storm for Oma? I hope you don’t have any more wet ones.

Oma, I feel for you. You do get used to walking whatever distance your dog 'needs' or, in Eva's case, expects! But I noticed this week, it seems to be much further just to go round the block after 6 weeks of not dog walking. I didn't have to walk Bailey much as he has a lovely dog walker Mon to Thurs. We were taking him to the hospice the other three days and DIL would usually take him for a walk there to give her a break.

I'm sure after a week of walking Storm at tea time you will be super-fit!

We have him till next Friday

        Daisy
        My knees are complaining ,
he has to stop at all the interesting bits and likes to lead the way , he would just keep walking if I let him ,
Not so bad on the paths but trudging through grass isn’t easy 😁

If you want a laugh, let me tell you about my one experience of 'dog walking '

When DD3 was at primary school I went on a school trip as a parent helper to a Viking settlement re enaction.
We were given Viking costume and a fun day was had by all.
However, the children were divided into families - mum, dad and children for each house. Adults were the serfs. Meaning I was the servant for the house DD was the mother of. DD of course treated me kindly and it was very pleasant, if a bit odd to be at the beck and call of children.
The Laird (an adult ) said to me, Hey you, take my dog for a walk and handed me a dog on a bit of rope! As a serf you must obey so there it was. I have never taken a dog on a lead and didn't know how to walk a dog .I was afraid I would hurt it if I pulled the lead, so in essence the dog led me
Eventually DD's teacher spotted me in the field amongst all the vegetables with this dog leading me here and there. She offered to take it so I said Yes please!!!

Oma, it sounds as though you are doing a good dog-walking job. They say to let your dog sniff round - it's a kind of social interaction for them, a bit like getting sniffmails! I do hope your knees are ok though. xx

Dogs like to go there own way 😁

Daisy every blade of grass has to be sniffed , bushes are a haven for quite a while then tree trunks are circled with me following 😁

Oma, Eva can get almost obsessed with a single blade of grass! I never know how long a walk is going to take. I see other dogs trotting along quite oblivious to the sniff-opportunities they are missing.

Daisy storm couldn’t trot along and take no notice if he tried he’s like a blood hound nose to ground and he’s away 😁

Oma, I had a bloodhound many years ago, and to see her tracking across a field was incredible. Be careful Storm doesn't tow you off your feet!

I miss my walks with doggo! He had a mind of his own and you were never sure if he was going to go for a long walk or get to the end of the drive and stop. No coaxing would make him move until he was ready and then he'd turn round and go back home! Many's the time, I've stood by him, waiting and getting strange looks from passersby! He could ignore other dogs, but he had a thing about light coloured dogs and would bark and strain at the leash! Nightmare of a dog, but such a loving one ( on his terms) too.
Our Great Dane had a thing about policemen and dark skinned people. Very embarrassing!

Oma, Eva has a mind of her own as well. She would still get in any car she saw with the door or tailgate open - no hesitation at all. Is she trying to tell us something?

WG, I think most of our dogs have been like this. Very embarrassing. There's a dog in our training class who is like that with dogs smaller than him. It's a dilemma for the owners when they meet dogs who are very slightly smaller - the their dog class the dog as 'smaller' or ok.
