    Snow globes - beware!

We have been talking about snow globes in another thread. Beautiful to look at but if you have pets (or visiting children), please be careful.

I've just read a heartbreaking account of what happened to two of a family's precious dogs. One had managed to pull a Christmas snow globe from a shelf, and the owner saw it and immediately got to the liquid (and the dog) and started cleaning it up. The liquid went everywhere. It didn't feel like water, so the owner Googled it and found some snow globes have ANTIFREEZE in them. The vet saw the dogs immediately and started treatment - induced vomiting, antidote and they were put on drips. Sadly within 36 hour both dogs had died.

It takes only a very small amount of Antifreeze to poison a dog or cat, or a human. The liquid is sweet so pets will lick it.

I knew antifreeze was dangerous for dogs and cats.
But i didn't know smow globes had antifreeze in.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I thought snow globes were made with water and glycerin and having just googled it , it seems that snow globes manufactured abroad are more likely to have antifreeze in them .
I have 4 have snow globes but thankfully we have no pets or small children

              Oh Daisy, how very sad

I had never considered what the liquid inside a snow globe was.

No here, Plant. I had no idea they were such a potential killer.

I had a little panic this afternoon. I was driving across the Forest and there were two donkeys licking the road surface, and for a minute I couldn't remember what they put on the roads when it's icy. Then I realised it was salt! Last year they put salt licks in few yards off the road to encourage the livestock to stay off this particular road which is a notorious accident spot.
