As planned we took Eva to the paddock this morning, only to find when we got there that there were 3 wooden snakes tied to the gate. Our first thought was it might be a warning that there were snakes in the field - it has been too wet to cut the meadow flowers down yet.
EEEK I'm not scared of snakes but wondered whether they were grass snakes or adders. Eva's walk was just about to be cancelled in case there were adders.
Luckily, our friends who own the paddock came out to say 'hello' and explained that there were no real snakes. The village carnival had asked each road to have a theme of a game and our friends' road had chosen snakes and ladders. They had hidden 12 or 13 snakes around the field for visitors to spot. Our friends are having a big family get together in a couple of weeks so they decided to leave the snakes hidden in the trees as a game for the family! They were all beautifully hand made by C (she's a very talented lady!) So we enjoyed playing 'hunt the snake' while Eva did her zoomies round the field. We spotted 9 of them!
