When we're pottering round in the front garden we usually let Eva come out with us. She's very good and doesn't wander off, but this morning there were lorries, diggers and cement mixers in action next door, so we left her inside with the back door open, but the side gate closed. I went in to make some lunch and Eva was snoozing in the sun outside the greenhouse - her favourite spot. She followed me in, hoping for a little treat and then went back out.
OH came in. We had lunch and were just finishing when a neighbour came to the door - with Eva! He had seen her wandering about and thought we were still in the garden, but then noticed she had started to follow a stranger walking through from the path to the village. He called her and she went back to him and he couldn't see us around so rang the bell.
She must have slipped out behind OH when he was manoeuvring the wheelbarrow through the gate! Little monkey, but we were very grateful to our neighbour because he's terrified of dogs, and it was brave of him to call her. I think secretly he was quite chuffed that she went to him.
