A pedigree or a mixed breed doggy?

Our Eva is a mixed breed and we were always intrigued to know exactly what the mixture was. After having her DNA checked last year we found she was 25% Lab, 25% Boxer, 25% Staffie, 12 1/2% Border Collie and 12 1/2% Dorgue de Bordeau. It's been interesting looking at her personality and traits in the light of knowing her ancestry.

I can just imagine what interesting puppies might result from some of these 'fun' unions. Which would you choose?

Collie + Lhasa Apso - A Collapso, a dog that folds up for easy transport

Pointer + Setter - Poinsetter, the traditional Christmas pet

Pekinese + Lhasa Apso - a Peekasso, an abstract dog

Irish Water Spaniel + English springer Spaniel - an Irish Springer, a dog fresh and clean as mountain air

Terrier + Bulldog - Terribull, not a good dog

Bloodhound + Labrador - a Blabador, a dog that barks incessantly

Malamute + Pointer - a Moot point, owned by .... oh, well, it doesn't matter anyway

Collie + Malamute - Commute - a dog that travels to work

Deerhound + Terrier - a Derriere, a dog that's true to the end

Bull Terrier + Shitzu - oh dear, can't think what this might be called.

Very funny, I thought the title was a serious one.

We have had many dogs, the most obedient and easy to train were a Border Collie from a farm and more recently the family had a gorgeous Golden Retriever. No sign of them having another dog yet but I think they might when Sil retires.

Oma - I am a lady! Otherwise I might have had some ideas about what to call a Bull Terrier + Shitzu

Plant - Eva is the first dog I've had where I haven't been able to get her to where I'd like her to be - calm enough to walk off lead in the Forest, and come back whenI call her! She's now about 7, so I suppose there's still time! She is much better than she was - she will stay close to us off lead around our cul de sac, talk nicely to any passing dog and come back when we call her. She was doing really well in training class too, before lockdown. She's better walking locally on the lead than she was, but out in the Forest she's so excited she won't listen to us at all!

I trained our last rescue, a Border Collie, not to herd livestock on the Forest in two or three weeks, the Yorkies never even tried to chase or herd (apart from squirrels and rabbits!) and the lab/retriever cross we had when we came to live here was the same.

Daisy, did your dogs choose a leader. My OH was always the leader with our border collie and although my DD took their Retriever to classes, her OH was always the leader as far as the dog was concerned.

Plant - no, I don't think so. It's more horses for courses. The Yorkies had each other - they were litter mates - and we were just part of the litter. The border collie was a rescue. He'd been owned from a puppy by a young man who had sadly died in a road accident. He loved our two sons, who were teenagers, but didn't really have any close relationship with me or OH. The boys always came first.

Eva spreads her love around. She sticks close by me in the mornings, and OH in the evenings - it's very noticeable. Other than that - she has her favourites. Certain friends, DS2, both GDs, Pam, our dog trainer and a few others. One of them is the window cleaner, and he's just been. We always give him a coffee and biscuits, and she's just sat in the garden with him and wouldn't leave him. He had to coax her through the door so he could get on with the windows - she totally ignored me!

My husband John was always the leader of the pack with the dogs we have had over the years,Rosie the black lab came from rescue when she was 3 as the family had a new baby and couldn't cope she was such a gentle dog and followed him everywhere when he was home from work,just fabulous with the children and ignored everything I said we had her until she was 16 such a sad loss to the family.
We have had numerous rescue dogs prior to them being rehomed to a forever home I would go to work of a morning and by the time I came home John had agreed to take in another dog for assessing we had all sorts from a one eyed pug/3 legged cocker spaniel/rags a shambles of a dog found in a bin who turned out to be the most faithful dog ever.
Not forgetting the adorable Poppy the lhasa apso who was found in a flat with her previous owner who had sadly died they where on their own for 5 days but she is a delight she is 8/9yrs old now and very spoilt.

Glamma it sounds as though yours and John's home was a lovely place for all those dogs over the years.
Poor Poppy, but now she has certainly fallen on her paws by living with you

Glamm - I agree with Gem and Plant - rehoming a rescue or fostering while a dog is assessed and a permanent home is found is so worthwhile. I also think it's great to give a home to a young puppy, knowing that you're going to do your very best to bring them up well and give them their best life.

I think it was GrannyJules (?) who trained a puppy to be an assistant dog. Any news of her by the way? My OH is the leader of the pack as he takes him for walks & feeds him.
I'm the one he comes to for cuddles.

Oma, Eva knows in our house anyone who has the cheese is going to be seduced into giving it to her when she looks at you with those starving, hard done by big brown puppy dog eyes and plonks her chin on your lap, and then the grande finale - the biiiiigggg sigh. 🤣🤣🤣
