    Hedgehogs

DS1's garden has been requisitioned by a hedgehog. I spotted it on the veg patch one evening. So we fed it, knowing it's close to hibernation time and they need help. Two nights later we spotted two of them! DS had some lengths of wood in the garage, so he and OH decided to make them a hedgehog hotel! It was a beautiful sunny morning today and they set to work, using a plan they'd downloaded, and a little bit of guidance from GS1!!

It was placed carefully near the logpile in a quiet part of the garden. We put straw in and placed logs etc on the roof, and even gathered up dry leaves to put conveniently nearby so they can customise it to their own tastes.

Tonight DIL spotted this - taken in the dark, so not great quality, but it looks as though it may be popular.

Fascinating Daisy, how lovely for the hedgehogs.

What is life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare

Oma - I'm sorry you can't see the photo - I'll have to do some juggling round - it's off DIL's phone. The food is just to the right of the box and there's a hedgehog tucking in! This is great because we'd had to move the old feeding station. It didn't take them long to find the new location!

I'd love to see the hedgehog hotel when you have time to do it Daisy
Its wonderful to look after these little creatures.

We have 2 hotel/hibernating boxes (hidden in the shrubs, no one ever notches them until we show them!) Plus a hedgehog diner -upside down plastic storage crate, see-through so you can film then eating, and with a door cut in.

We love it when hedgehogs come to visit.
              The hedgehog hotel sounds great.

Gem and Oma - can you see any of the photos or is it just the one taken at night?

Gem - A feeding station is a good idea and I've been reading up on them - their garden is visited by foxes and cats, to say nothing of their resident cat and dog, so food has to be protected!

This is the finished hotel (let me know if you can't see it, though!)

Daisy I cant see it I'm afraid (or either of the earlier ones)
The feeding stations protect from cats. Our friends C and P have a local baby fox who gets in to theirs regularly! But it would stop bigger foxes.
It keeps the rain and snow out of the food, which is one of the main reasons.
