When we where small dad bought home a scruffy soft of collie mix and we called him Scamp dad professed to not be very fond of him and that he only brought him home because the other family didn't want him for someone who was non plussed he took him out every morning and was distraught when he died aged 15.Since then we have always had animals in the home from rabbits, cats, dogs a pot bellied pig called juicy lucy and a budgie called peter.
I now have Poppy and Oliver as I have had to rehome Dolly as she was far to strong for me to walk and exercise she has been rehomed via Bassets Rescue who vetted the home for me and she now has a 2 yr old Basset playmate .

Glamma, you did the right thing if Dolly was too strong for you to exercise, and it sounds as though she has a lovely new home and playmate.

I didn't have a pet as a child. When our kids were little,we got a cat.
We had her for 18½ years. No pets now by choice.

Glamm when Storm was younger he pulled me over a few times he was so strong , I stopped walking him now he's older he is superb on the lead so I walk him again , but he does get two long walks a day from SIL ,
You did the right thing and she sounds happy in her new home x

Glamm, I agree, you did the right thing rehoming Dolly. I can manage Eva on a lead (she's still not great) but I can't let my friend walk her, even though M would love it, because I know Eva could easily pull her over. I'm sure Dolly is having a lovely time with her new playmate. I'm sure you miss her funny ways, but it was the best for both of you. xx

This is the first time in my life I’ve been without a pet! The DDs are making up for it though, they have plenty between them! 😁

Glam, my Dad was the same... he brought home strays. Not all at once. One escaped & my Dad went to find him. When he came back he was red faced, puffing out of breath & in a temper because he'd torn his trousers on some barbed wire. Mum said at least he'd found the dog.

We also had a budgie who mum found hung from it's ladder. We could never work that one out.

OH & I have had a cocker & when he died we got another cocker. Beautiful temperaments. I don't know what I'd do without one now.

I know that we did the right thing for Dolly and the lady from the rescue centre has rung me a few times with updates and she is so settled she is not too far away in Warrington she has been spayed and settled in very well,it was very strange that she went to her new home on Sunday the 8th December and my darling John died on Monday 9th December we had spent the previous fortnight discussing what we where going to do and I am so glad we made the right decision.

It sounds as if your Dolly will enjoy her new home with a friend to play with Glamm. What are your other dogs?
