Henry has come into his own!

Henry is our lovely ginger boy cat.
Many years ago he adopted my family, which then consisted of me, my ex, and DD3, the others having grown up. We also had two female cats.
He lived over the road, belonging to a man who had a drink problem. We presume a girlfriend wanted a kitten, then they split up (then she left the cat) He was fed outside and was often out in the rain looking in.
Eventually he realised that over the road life was cushy. Two cats who were loved and pampered. To cut a long story short he eventually moved in his owner disappeared, he became ours.
When my present OH and I moved from town to this village we of course brought Henry along, with my 2 girl cats and OH's one. Fun and games for a while, and very expensive owning 4 cats!
OH's cat died 5 years ago aged 14 , and my 2 lady cats both died last year, in May and December, aged 19.
    Now we only have Henry.
We think he is probably about 16 but are not sure. At last he is top cat! My lovely little tortoiseshell cat was definitely top of the pecking order, until she died in May. Then there was no top cat really, but Henry was down on the list for attention as the remaining cat needed a lot of care and attention in her final months.
Now he has become kitten like, playing a lot, he meows, which he never did, and was very much a presence on New Years Eve, which all our friends noticed. Taking his sisters place maybe as she loved all our social gatherings!
he doesn't seem to miss the others, and is a very happy boy

Gem - that is so sweet. I'm sure Henry has been happy with you all these years, but now he's an 'only' he's loving all the attention. He's also a very handsome boy.

Henry - wishing you many more happy years, enjoy your time in the sunshine.

What a lovely boy. He does look very content. Do you think you will get another cat? I know how hard it is when they go, but they do leave a huge hole in the family.

Thanks ladies, he is a handsome boy

Enfys, I would love nothing more than two kittens, I feel about that as broody people feel about new babies!
OH has always said no more cats when they all go.
I have had cats all my life, and cannot imagine a life without any. We still have Henry and when he is gone we may have a short no pet phase, making going away so much easier.
Then, fingers crossed, we will get 2 kittens. 4 and even 3 cats was a lot and an expense, but I have usually had them in pairs, so would like to again.
Watch this space as they say!

Gem - you do realise you will have very little choice about companions or successors to Henry. You are a cat lady, and cats will come to you, steal your heart (and OH's) and move in.

I totally get how you feel. Our home feels empty if there isn't at least one dog in it. xx

Henry is enjoying his time now, after taking a backseat to the girls.

He is a handsome beast Gem. When we lost our Collie I thought the cat would miss her badly as they had been together 17 years. Not so. Puss became even more loving and demanded much attention. This is the first time we have had no animals in 47 years and we won’t have another. As you quite rightly say it is an expense. I do miss my cat and dog but I don’t intend to weaken (until DD1 comes in and says someone has dumped another cat at her livery yard!)

Well Henry looks very happy. He knew what he was doing when he adopted you and OH.

He’s a gorgeous boy. And it’s really good that he’s not missing his house mates. As for when he finally goes to the great mouse hunt in the sky, you will have to get two kittens. Or even two bonded rescue cats. I’m with you, a house isn’t a home without a puss cat to welcome you home and warm your lap of an evening.
