Carpet cleaners

Not strictly a pet topic, but pet related.
We have 4 cats. 2 cause no mess at all, apart from leaving cat hair about. My male cat overeats and frequently deposits the whole meal back on the floor. If we're lucky it will be on the easily wipeable solid floor, if not it will be on the carpet. OH's female cat, has been sick a lot recently, almost always on the carpet but twice this week on beds (She is having treatment for this from the vet, so hopefully this will stop) The worse thing is she uses parts of the carpet as a toilet from time to time. It goes in phases. She will do it every day for weeks, then not at all for weeks. All the cats have free access to the cat flap and garden.
To be honest she drives us both to distraction, we have tried everything.
However I am not here to ask advice about my step-cat LOL. I fear she is a lost cause!

We clean the carpet every time she wets or messes, of course, but a couple of times we have borrowed a friend's carpet cleaner, to properly spot clean areas and keep it all fresh. I feel we should buy our own.
The one we have used is Vax Rapide Spring upright cleaner. I wondered if any other pet owners have experience of any of these type of cleaners, and any recommendations?

We have the Vax Rapid ultra and DD borrows it regular to clean her carpets , like you she has one cat who tends to throw up on the carpet rather than the tiled floor usually when he has been a greedy guts and eats too much , The new cat took to peeing by the conservatory door she tried all sorts to stop her, carpet spray, cat off, etc so I told her to use soap powder it neutralises the smell so stops them going back to that spot , so far touch wood its worked but it may be that the cat has settled in now , They worth having Gemini, I have also used mine on the spare bed mattress when Oliver wet the bed one night worked a treat as it cleaned it and sucked all the water back out so dried very quick

I have a Vax Rapide, I find it not so good on stains but really good on removing pongs. DD2 borrowed it last week to do carpets after a certain young man was very sick everywhere.

We've got a Vax something or other (I'll have to check!) which is brilliant. We buy special odour-removing cleaning liquid for it and it really does deal with pet accidents very well. When we had 2 dogs they would sometimes get territorial (and all dog owners know what they do then), and now Clyde is getting on a bit he sometimes has an accident on the landing carpet in the night. We use Dr Beckmann Carpet Stain Remover for immediate treatment (this comes with a built in brush/sponge and is brilliant) and then the Vax for a proper all over clean. It's a bit of a faff to get it out for one spillage/accident though. Even though we do our carpets regularly it's scary to see the water afterwards! But then I think it must be doing a good job.

My Brother had one, like a "Henry" type. We've all borrowed it. It got the marks out of Catherine's rented house carpets and made them fresh. Sorted Lynsey's carpets when Ryan was finger feeding. Though it didn't get the marks out of mine when our poor dog was poorly and wetting everywhere., though they did smell better. I used the Vax shampoo.
