I've just read a post on FB from a vet in Scotland who was unable to save a young dog healthy dog who half an hour earlier had been romping around on a walk. He had been around algae from a river. Apparently there are some blue-green algae which aren't that toxic, but other kinds can kill very quickly - in minutes. It's more often found where the water isn't flowing, like ponds and lakes and it builds up, but with all the dry weather rivers are getting low and sluggish.
I had no idea algae of any kind could be toxic to dogs, so I'm just sharing - just in case doggy members here didn't know either.
