I never seem to have time to post on here properly, but just a quicky now while I’m waiting for stuff to come out of the oven.
In August we shall have been married for 50 years.
We planned a lunch in an upmarket place on the river and then realised that even with close family and godparents the numbers would be 25.
So - it’s two ‘do’s. The lunch is going ahead in September and tomorrow is a party / BBQ for 50! Happily DS and DiL are hosting and preparing all the BBQ food - he’s bought a huge brisket amongst other things) but I’m making puddings. Two large coconut and lime cakes, two large carrot cakes, three tiramisu, two blackberry and apple crumbles, big bowl of syllabub, 55 meringues and a huge bowl of mixed berries. I think I might have over catered!

Thats a lot of catering Sum1.
I make coconut and cherry cakes,but never made coconut and lime.
I'm off to look at some recipes,or maybe you would like to share yours.

Coconut and lime cake sounds delicious. We had a lime and coconut battenburg cake at Betty's once it it was lovely .

Sum1, how wonderful to have two celebrations. I hope the weather is kind to you tomorrow, and, yes, I think you might have over-catered just a little. It all sounds totally delicious, and although I'm not a fan of coconut I love lime, so would have to try your coconut and lime cake. I'd have to leave room to try all the other delicious goodies as well.

I over-catered for a big family get together at Easter, but most of the family were more than keen to have a doggy bag to take home.

Thanks everyone. I didn’t over cater. In the end it was 52 adults and 9 children, we were expecting just over 40 but as ever I forgot that sub-continent time and custom and African time and custom is a bit different (no need to reply to an RSVP and arrive late) so everyone came. Pix are on FB so I know some will have seen them and it was huge fun, especially seeing old friends that somehow we hadn’t seen for some time as paths don’t cross so often.
DS did an amazing job together with John, a friend, who stood at the four BBQs (I know!) and did a huge brisket, chicken wings, chicken shawarma, masses of ribs, and all sorts of veggie stuff.
DD did a speech which was lovely and all the children got on so well even though they’d met for the first time.
We went home at about 9.00 and it seems it took them all about 5 hours to clear up! A huge bonus for us.

The only sad note was those friends who were too poorly to come, as we age the cancers, the arthritis and Parkinson’s kicks in. We are very blessed to be still standing I think!

Sum1, what a fabulous and memorable day for you and your OH. I'm sure all your family and friends also enjoyed it, and hopefully some of the children will have made new friends.

The food looked amazing and to my mind would rival your nearest Michelin-starred restaurant. What a good job you catered for the many, rather than the few.

Is this week a week or recovery, or are you busy with walks and all the other events in your week?

Well, yes, recovering. Writing thank you letters. And off walking on Sunday..

Sadly, OH’s brother has had a stroke, couldn’t attend and so we’re off to Manchester on Tuesday to see him in hospital. Not a trip we expected or look forward to.

Sum, how sad that amid your joyful celebrations there is such a worry as well. I do hope your BIL makes a good recovery from his stroke. x
