Happy Birthday Gem

I had a very nice Lockdown birthday
Cards and presents in bed, then a shower while OH made bacon sandwiches for breakfast.
A bouquet of flowers then arrived from a friend, a lovely surprise.
It was lucky for me that the rules changed, allowing groups of up to six to be together outdoors including gardens. The original plan had been to stay at home, and family to drop in at different times. The weather forecast scuppered that plan, so DD 2 invited us over there in the evening, and DD1 and and DD and SIL3 as well. They have a circular decked area with seating around the edges which is perfect for social distancing. We added a gazebo and firepit for counteract the damp and chill. It was a lovely evening and felt so normal to be together again just chatting and having a nice time. Not hugging is a bit odd, especially for DD3 who loves hugs especially with me. It is so good to be able to be together at last though.
In the morning DD and GS 1 came round. The weather wasn't too good, but we put up both our parasols so it was possible to all remain dry and distance. GS (who has got into cooking since lockdown) had made me a lovely birthday cake.
In the afternoon we set off for the seaside. As we were about to leave a parcel arrived. It was an M&S gift box with a pretty miniature rose plant, box of chocolates and bottle of wine. The card told it was from friends for mine and OH's birthdays, as they hadn't sent anything for hers. A lovely surprise and lucky that we were still there.
The forecast was poor but we had decided to go whatever the weather, even if we just sat in the car and watched the sea. In fact we got out and had a walk on the beach, down to the sea which was far out at that point. We had a bit of walk along the beach but it was wet and windy so we didn't stay out of the car long.
We took off our wet coats, got back into the car and enjoyed looking at the sea from the dry, with a nice hot cuppa we had brought in a flask. We eventually left, just in time to drive back to pick up our 6pm fish and chip order near home.
I needed the loo so we couldn't go straight here. Quick dash into house, loo for me , and OH picked up salt pepper and forks, so we could eat them in the car. We picked up the food, ate them, then drove home, and had a cuppa. In no time it was time to get changed and back into the car again to DD's for the evening. It was about 11.30 when we got home.
A lovely day, which I really enjoyed.
I remember Daisy saying her birthday celebrations were tiring, I felt the same for the same reason. Because we do nothing now, a full day like that going out more than once, especially going out in the evening, and seeing several people, is exhausting!
Today DD1's present to me arrived - afternoon tea for two. OH and I shared it this evening with more for tomorrow. This extended my birthday, and was a lovely treatβA grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.β β Unknown
