Tips and useful guides on using these forums.

    1) You must be a member in order to post. Logging in is simple and quick. Click on the word 'register' which is just below the Forum Heading. Choose your 'username' and follow the instructions, and come and join us!

    2) Once you have logged in, depending what browser or if you are on an iPad, desktop, phone or HiPad etc., don't panic !!! as you may find you don't show as logged in until you click on 'FORUMS' or 'Today's Posts' or in fact any of the posts you wish to view. You will then see your name on the right hand top of the forums.

    3) If you wish to see the latest posts, go to the left hand side, just under the RED FORUMS sign, and click on 'Today's Posts'. These will bring up a list of the threads most recently commented on.

    4) To access these posts you can take one of three actions. You can simply click on the heading of this post, or, you can put your cursor right by the heading on the blue circle with arrows pointing downwards. This takes you to the start of the thread. If the thread is long and you have already read it, take your cursor to the right hand side of the topic, and there you will see a blue box, with arrows pointing to the right. This will take you to the last post on that thread.

    5) To place your chosen Avatar above your name, click on your username and it will take you into your USER PROFILE. Here you will see EDIT SETTINGS

Click on EDIT SETTINGS and it will take you into your PROFILE. Here you will see your personal details such as your User Title, DOB., Biography, Interests, etc. It is your choice to fill this in as much or as little as you would like.

Please bear in mind that we have a Friendly Policy of making your Birthday into an EVENT on the forums! If you decide to leave your DOB blank, we won't know when your birthday is. Obviously this is entirely your choice.

Next to your PROFILE you will see ACCOUNT. Click on this and it will take you to the area where you can put in your signature. Scroll down to CONVERSATION DETAIL OPTIONS. Here you will find you can upload your chosen avatar, and choose your signature, which will appear at the end of each post you make. Make certain both boxes are ticked for this.

CLICK SAVE CHANGES FOR YOUR ACTIONS TO WORK.

    6) Go to ENABLE VISITOR MESSAGING'. The visitor messaging allows members to leave messages to one another publicly. If you do not want to receive visitor messages, uncheck the box to turn off the visitor messaging system.

CLICK SAVE CHANGES FOR YOUR ACTIONS TO WORK.

    7) Go to RECEIVE PRIVATE MESSAGING. Make sure the FROM ALL MEMBERS box is ticked or you will not be able to receive any private messages from other members.

CLICK SAVE CHANGES FOR YOUR ACTIONS TO WORK.

    8) Look at REPUTATION LEVEL. Your current reputation level is displayed to other users whenever you post a message. If you would like to hide your reputation, disable this option.

CLICK SAVE CHANGES FOR YOUR ACTIONS TO WORK.

THE REMAINING BOXES SHOULD BE LEFT AS THEY ARE.

    9) PRIVACY. Click on this and it will lead you into the areas where you can Customize who can see and comment on things you started, replied, followed and following under your profile.

CLICK SAVE CHANGES FOR YOUR ACTIONS TO WORK.

    10) NOTIFICATIONS:

When you create or participate in a topic, you will automatically be subscribed to it if you tick the automatic subscriptions box.

Generally we keep the email notification set to OFF,.

You can change who Subscribes to you and/or

.....Confirm a subscribe request ......Posts on your visitor message board ...... Votes on your polls ......Likes your post .......Mentions you in a post .... Comments on your discussion etc.

CLICK SAVE CHANGES FOR YOUR ACTIONS TO WORK.

    11) To the right hand side of your Avatar, you will see 4 headings. Activities Subscribed About Media

Thanks, but on point 7 I've ticked the other option. I thought that when other people join I'd like them not to PM me unless I accepted their request. Is this why I'm having trouble with my PMs do you think?

Unfortunately I came on here first tonight, then went in my settings & changed Pm choice, not knowing you had yesterday. Sorry. I PMd you just now & this is what I got in a box with a warning triangle...
"Mamar* has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her."

Bit confused & I'm really under the weather too, so brain not in gear, (really bad lung infection).
            Also...

Is there a way to find out who liked a post? I can only see "like" but not who ....

Skye, we recently discovered that although we admin can see who Likes by hovering over the number, ordinary members can't! We had no idea until it was pointed out to us. I don't think we have worked out how, or if, we can make it so you can all see. We will look into it further and do our best, as I agree it is so frustrating not knowing who has liked our posts!!!

Aggie - we're working on it. As Gemini said, we've only just found out that you couldn't see who the 'likes' are. In the meantime, everyone, keep 'liking'. One thing we have noticed is that on the list of Forums the number of 'likes' shown only relates to the original post, not the running total of likes on that thread. So if it looks as though a thread has no likes it just means the OP hasn't got any, and understandably, it's not appropriate to 'like' in some cases.

Hmm, puzzling. Unless you have changed something in your settings it shouldn't suddenly happen. I will have a quick look for you, Plant.
