Gem the web is fantastic for all this info. I had no idea. Several supermarkets have emailed comprehensive lists of all their goods which are safe for GI people. So it's easy to look things up. Gluten pops up in some odd things Marmite for instance and Worcestershire sauce. However, supermarket own brand yeast extract is okay! I'm so delighted with the improvement in health I'm keen to get it right.Be careful when blindly following the Masses.

BL - you are doing well with you GF shopping and cooking. I haven't' checked recently but tomato ketchup is another product to watch. Heinz is fine but some own labels aren't. Lemon curd can vary as well. Sometimes they change a recipe with no warning making something that was previously GF a no-no product.
The GF pasta is very good, although it seems to cook slightly faster.
It made a huge different to my DS2's health when he went GF, and as you say it's worth putting in the effort to get it right. He's even found a GF beer he likes, although I understand he had to do quite a lot of research on that topic!

I have just found a fabulous MandS gluten free loaf. It is white sliced Boule and is covered in poppy seeds. I would eat this bread even if I didn't need to have gluten free as it is so delicious. Particularly so when toasted with peanut butter or yeast extract. Also makes great toasted sandwiches. I've also found an interesting polenta and almond cake recipe which I will try making on Monday. I'm pleased with the way it is going so far. Thanks for all your encouragement.Be careful when blindly following the Masses.

Yes Gem they are bound to get it right aren't they?
Daisy thanks for the tomato sauce tip. I am becoming a bit gluten OCD but I am finding that there is a lot of it about these days. We ate out twice last week and found two lovely pubs and a small cafe that had GF on the menu. The staff were very helpful and happy to adjust existing recipes to exclude gluten too.Be careful when blindly following the Masses.

When we went to the lavender place yesterday, I noticed that their café menu did gluten free. Gluten free was one of the bread choices for sandwiches, and there was at least one gluten free cake available. Made a cake! Almost the same as Shem's recipe but using polenta instead of semolina (not sure what the difference is) also I flavoured it with almond essence. It is very nice although a bit rich so only need small portions.
The yellow colour is caused by the polenta apparently. It says that it freezes okay so that is what I have done. Although I have eaten some and left some out for laterYou do not have permission to view this gallery.

BL - that looks yummy - well done.
When GS1 was staying here his mum brought some GF/DF pasta and it was maize and something else (sorry can't remember what) but it was from Waitrose. the taste was ok but it went from being undercooked to overcooked in the blink of an eye!
I was pleased to notice when I went to the cafe in Waterstones yesterday that they had GF options. Bargain prices and no gluten!
