Slow cooker recipe for gammon with brown sugar

Somewhere in the last few weeks I've read that you can cook a gammon in the slow cooker by putting soft brown sugar underneath it and covering the top with more sugar. I can't remember where I saw this though. So if any of our slow-cooker experts can throw light on it and tell me how to do it, I'd be very grateful. xx

Nanto, many thanks. "The Improving Cook.com" is the site I was looking for. Perfect. I'm going to try that tomorrow, so I'll report back on how it goes. xxx

Well, I've done it. We have had visitors this evening, so I'm just about to serve the gammon. It looks and smeels delicious so I've sneaked a slice, and it's lovely. Moist, tasty and very tender!

I'll post photos later, but need to get us fed right now.

Woe is me! I tried to pour all the lovely juices from the slow cooker into a jug and it slipped out of my hand. How can a relatively small amount of gooey liquid travel so far and make such a mess! Still nothing broken and I did get some of it into the jug!

I was going to serve it with egg, chips and peas, but the new bag of chips was right at the bottom of the chest freezer and it was far too cold to take everything out and repack it. So I did jacket potatoes, started in the microwave and then finished in the oven, with veggies. I'll post photos later!

Thank you so much, Nanto. It's definitely something I'll do again, and was so easy.

Does the sugar make the gammon less salty Daisy?

Nanto, it was scrummy. I served the rest tonight with a broccoli recipe I'd found on FaceBook. It was very nice indeed.

Plant, the gammon wasn't at all salty, but still tasty, and it couldn't be easier, especially if you can pour the juices out of the slow cooker pot without dropping it.

I think I will try this in our poor neglected slow cooker!
