The best laid plans - let down by the car!

Today I was going to my friends house for lunch. I got into the car, switched on the engine and it wouldn't start. Well, it did, but not fully. OH was about to leave, in her car, to meet friends for a round of golf . She tried the car, and couldn't do any better than I did. It wasn't going anywhere. OH was already late so no way could she give me a lift, several miles in the other direction.
I phoned my friend and she kindly came to collect me.
I didn't feel I could expect her to drive me home in the late afternoon traffic so I made my own way back. 20 minute walk into town, a wait for a bus, then 30 minute bus ride home. Life is much easier with a car!
I will find out tomorrow what the problem is. It recently passed it's MOT, and was serviced a few months ago, but I realise things can change at any time with cars.

How frustrating Gem. I hope that you enjoyed your lunch. Look on the bright side....you might have walked off a few of those lunch calories. I hope that it won't be too expensive a repair.

Gem - there's never a good time for a car to break down, but at least you were at home, not stranded on a busy road. I hope it's nothing serious.

Bit disappointing when the car had recently been serviced, could it have been the battery?

Well. OH tried the car this morning, no luck. Garage man came and he couldn't start it either. However, somehow he then did! He checked it al over, all is well and he can't see any reason for it!! He said if we have the same problem tomorrow morning to ring again, but he doubts we will.
A complete puzzle, but at least my car is working, and it shouldn't be too big a bill!
He advised taking it for a 12 to 15 mile run, so I'm going to do that now. It's years since I drove just for a drive, with no destination
I hope I will be back later

Gem - and they say mechanical things don't have souls or personalities. I bet your car just felt like a rest yesterday!

I have an intermittent problem with the catch on the tailgate of my car - sometimes it won't open. It will be temperamental for a few days then starts working again. It never happens to OH and the garage can't find anything wrong with it. Next time I shall give it the evil eye and a stern talking to!

Gem a similar thing happened to my son and his car. He came out of the supermarket and it wouldn't start. Son called the AA. But they couldn't start it either so towed car to garage. It was latish so tried it a few times then left it till morning when it just started without a murmur! Seems to have been fine since so bit of a mystery.

                    Our cars are haunted

It behaved itself on the long drive round I took it on. Fingers crossed it starts OK tomorrow, to collect GD from school! Luckily OH will be around, so at least we can go in her car if needs be.
