I'm not a good cook, and I certainly find the daily grind of putting healthy food on the table a bit of a chore, but I do usually cook from scratch. I use more veggies than I did when our children lived at home, and frequently have fish rather than meat. I do a lot of stir fries because they're quick and easy and you can throw anything into them, and I like to think they're healthy!

I eat a lot of vegetables and love fish and eggs. As I am subscribed Warfarin, I have to limit green veg.(which I love) and not too many eggs. I cook stir-fries,they are one of the easiest dishes to cook for one

I am a good cook. Indeed I'm an excellent one. Not boasting as I'm pants at a whole heap of things, but not cooking. And I have to say that I don't ever divide food into healthy and unhealthy. Food is a pleasure and deserves respect. Therefore I've always made a point of cooking properly for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the whole family eating together where possible. The big rule is not to snack as that in my view is what spoils appetites and distorts perceptions of food. If children are brought up to try a wide range of foods and see their grown ups eating and enjoying what has been cooked for them, they will learn by example. I think the saddest comments I hear is when some parents say ' Oh, you won't like this' without giving the child a chance to try without any pressure.
So, in conclusion I think there no bad foods, only bad diets.
I always gave the boys a variety of food so did there parents for instance at only two years old youngest GS loved smoked Salmon he would eat it like it was a snack cost me a fortune , Oldest loved , liver , and sprouts in fact they both still love veg I would slow cook Rib Eye steak in gravy and serve it with veg and there plates would be clean as a whistle . Another meal they loved was Cod Loin with a pesto crust Asparagus and sweetcorn . Oldest loves any kind of sea food But because of my allergy to Shell fish I was never able to make it for them . Oldest isn't a dessert lover he would rather have a pepperoni stick where youngest loves Jelly and fruit .Im not a red meat lover I prefer chicken but im really into home made Fish pie cant eat it if we go out in case they have used fish stock but home made I know what`s in it and I eat Salmon a lot . Hubby is a red meat eater has steak at least once a week
I have ALWAYS wanted to keep chickens, I just love them. I don't do as much cooking as I used to I must admit to be lazy now and using ready meals at least 3 times a week, but good ones, with just pure ingredients in, although I know they are not as good as the real thing, it's all to do with time! Quite often I have an emergency call for work and have to drop everything and go...not knowing what time I'll be home it is easier to put something in the microwave !

We usually cook from scratch as well. Now I am working more at home I tend to prepare everything late afternoon and then husband cooks it when he comes in. I am happy to cook but he finds it relaxing. I wouldn't say that we do anything particularly healthy or unhealthy. I cook with Lurpack cooking liquid and oil. We eat meat most days but I prefer chicken to be honest. Husband would eat steak or liver and bacon every day if I let him. I do the menus for the week and do the shopping but the meals are moveable so if I have put spag bog for Monday and we don't fancy it we will have what I have put for Wednesday. Very flexible. No fish though, much as I love it husband detests it and the smell although I have got fresh tuna down him a couple of times.
Joe (9) and Sadie (4) are good eaters, they are big children and need a lot of sustenance. Both have quite sophisticated palates Joe in particular who likes nothing better than a plate of Camembert and similar cheeses and biscuits. Ben is a different kettle of fish. His health has made his appetite very poor although it is getting better with the new medication. Meal times are a constant battle and source of negotiation as to how much of what is on his plate should be in his tummy! he will not drink anything other than water which is no bad thing. All three look forward to ice cream and sprinkles for dessert although Sadie does not like strawberry sauce (not even when I make it myself) even though she loves strawberries.
If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together
I don't really enjoy cooking but always cook from scratch, very rarely have a ready meal. We eat a lot of chicken, not a great fan of red meat, and I try to include fish every week. Plenty of fresh veg and fruit, but I believe everything in moderation is fine. So wine at the weekends, puddings occasionally - DH has type 1 diabetes, so a proper pud is a real treat for him, and not too much on our plates

Well, I was thinking of starting a thread about cooking, but you bet me to it.I loathe cooking, would rather clean than cook.I don't really choose healthy meals, just cook what we like.
I use frozen veg, except potatoes, onions and cabbage. We like fresh mushrooms, but I always keep some frozen ones in, same with chopped onions.
I know they are not good for you,but I make my own chips and roast potatoes, neither hubby or me like the frozen ones.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.
I'm a bit like you Nanto2 .... I am a very good cook but over the past 5 years or so I really am bored with it! I also use a lot of frozen ingredients and veg now and I think they are perfectly healthy perhaps more so than fruit and veg which has been around for months. If we have guests I enjoy going all out and cooking properly.
I'm a big juicing fan with all the pith and pulp going into soups, stews and ice creams..and back into the actual drink itself, and here I am very lucky as OH does it every morning. Also goes in Spirulina and wheat grass and that is breakfast for me. Fruit is only lemon and kiwi as fruit is too much of a sugar rush.
