Pancakes. Northern/Yorkshire thing. Bit of a long story.

Some of you will probably read this and go yuk.
We have pancakes with stew. Never have them with sweet toppings.
To us, it's only like having Yorkshire puddings and stew.
This was one of my favourite meals as a child.
Just read a debate with a lady from Sheffield, she likes pancakes with stew,
but some southerners were saying they had never heard of pancakes with stew.

I can remember, just after we got married, MIL doing stew and pancakes.
She was surprised when i told her we always had it when i was younger,
because she thought a lot of people wouldn't like it.

The partner of one of our nephews is from Durham, and she had never heard of it.
But,she makes it now, and loves it.

Not heard of it here Nanto, although we adopted a few northern eating ways when I married OH. I’ve never tried savoury pancakes. I just like sugar and lemon. OH prefers syrup although now he is diabetic he has Stute Jam (no added sugar).

Never heard of that Nanto but I'm Northern through and through ,
When you think about it- it is just a Yorkshire pudding batter , and I have had Jam on Yorkshires before
Will give it a go next time we have a stew
Im not fat just 6ft too small

We used to use up the left over Yorkshire puddings the next day with syrup or jam on.

Nothing yukky about that Nan2, savoury pancakes are good
I have never never had then with stew, or heard of it, but would be happy to try it.

Like Oma and Plant I also like Yorkshire puds with sweet toppings. Golden syrup for me !

We have cold yorksire puddings with jam on.
Gem, i'm surprised you haven't had pancakes with stew, being a Yorkshire woman.
Oma,you are right, i always say it's like Yorkshire pudding, just cooked differently.

Plant - you're a girl after my own heart. There's nothing like them, or Staffordshire pikelets!!!

I'd never heard of pancakes and stew, but I don't see why not. At DS1's last week we had chicken fajita wraps one night, but DS1 who's gluten and dairy free, doesn't like the GF ones, so DS made him GF pancakes to have instead.

How do you have left over yorkies? My gang would rather leave the meat and veg than the puds.

                  I love you Auntie Bessie..😆

When i was a kid,we always had the yorkshire first with gravy.
This stems from when people didn't have much money, and the yorkshires helped to fill you up.
I use Aunt Bessies yorkshires, and serve them with the meat, veg and potatoes.
I could make a meal of just yorkshires and gravy.
