I've been very good and used my breadmaker religiously for a year or so. However this means having to slice the bread and I am hopeless no matter how hard I try! I wouldn't have lasted very long as a kitchen maid when they had to make sandwiches with wafer thin slices of bread. I would have ended up in the workhouse I am sure!

Gem - I think the device is something from Lakeland that you put the bread in and it has slots to slice through ... something like that.
Shem, very well done on using your bread maker - the bread is much nicer than shop bread, isn't it! I can't slice bread either. It's either, too thick, too thin or a bit of both, but if you're crafty making up sandwiches you can often even things up by pairing thick and thin slices together! I think the secret is a really extra-sharp knife - and a steady hand. I've got the knife ....
Oma - bread rolls never cut evenly. It's a law of nature.

Mimi - stale bread is good for toast though - but of course you don't want that too thin! LOL
Clover - I think you're right - I know I should sharpen the knife every time I use it, but I don't always remember to do it!
