    Butter vs Margarine

As we have had a poll on tap or bottled water...

Are you a butter or margarine person?

We have a low fat, low salt olive oil spread . Partly for OHs low fat diet and partly because I don't like the taste of butter. I never had even as a child, I found it too salty. Also the fact that the butter is to hard to spread when taken out of the fridge.

I love butter, but don't buy it very often as I eat too much of it. I have a Benecol type spread and DH likes the olive oil spread.

I keep Lurpack spread but use it very rarely, I am frequently trying to keep weight off. I use oil if I need to fry something.

I used to always use a Sunflower type spread but then I heard that butter wasn't as bad for you as previously thought,so that was all I needed I use lighter Lurpac spreadable now and have block butter for mashing potatoes etc.

I use anchor spreadable butter. It spreads right from the fridge. I love full butter such as Lurpack which I use for baking but rarely use it for sandwiches or things unless I am on my own and giving myself a treat. I use vegetable oil if frying (rare) or if cooking spaghetti bog or moussaka or something I will use olive oil. Apparently it doesn't matter what oil you use but I believe it tastes better especially as I am a bit fussy with my olive oil and while I can afford it I buy the good stuff. I know once we have retired all these expensive tastes will have to be curtailed so I am indulging myself.

I remember being sent to the co-op by my mother for a half pound of anchor butter "and don't pay any more than one shilling". Can you imagine getting half a pound of butter for 5p these days or anything else for that matter. 5p coins are kind of useless really aren't they?

I wish, butter is a ridiculous price nowadays. But as I keep reminding hubs you only get what you pay for.

                    We have both!
Lurpack spreadable is what I mostly have. OH has that sometimes and olive oil spread other times. I much prefer butter. I also buy block butter for mash and breadmaking.

I buy butter from the butchers. Pricey but worth it! I only put it in the fridge if it is really hot so very rarely and much easier to spread. OH has an olive oil based spread with no butter at all. We cook with different oils and occasionally butter depending on what we are having. I buy whatever block butter is on offer to use in my bread baking machine. I hadn't really tasted butter til I was about 12. I think the marg of choice was Echo though I might be wrong.

I freeze block butter occasionally if there is an offer on and we won't use it up before the use-by date.
