Gem - I take glucosamine and chondroitin. I don't know whether they help keep my joints from seizing up or not, and I suppose the only way to find out it to stop taking them and see what happens! The jury seems to be out on whether either, both or neither are beneficial - most of the trials I've read up on say there were no statistical differences between the groups taking the pills and those taking a placebo. It's worth giving them a go and see if it does help.

Daisy, that is a bit like reflexology, and I believe in that, so yes, I will give it a go!

Provided the supplements don't upset your tummy and you have no other side effects, it's worth a try. As with lots of these things, I think it's trial and error. Let us know what happens.

I've been taking glucosamine 1500mg for some years now and certainly noticed a big difference if my routine is disrupted and I miss a few days. If I haven't been out I also take a vitamin D tablet. One of the GPs I worked for used to say vitamin supplements were just peed down the loo but I disagree!

Gem - let us know if they make a difference for you.

Shem - I do wonder how much GPs know about nutrition. I remember my GP saying eggs were just little balls of fat waiting to ambush and clog up my arteries - now they're 'good' again! I wonder what the hens are doing differently!!!
