    Offal, tripe and all that

    I don't eat offal.
I'm sure it is very good for me, liver is full of iron etc, but I can't bear the thought of any of it. My mother loves it, dad was like me - squeamish!
My mum loves tripe, uncooked, with pepper and vinegar. She misses it, as it doesn't seem to be available any more.

Do any of you enjoy offal?

We eat liver and occasionally kidney usually fried with bacon etc. My dad used to eat tripe with a white sauce - yuk! Heart used to be on the menu at school but fortunately I took sandwiches!

I can't bear the thought of eating any of these, but brains would be the worst, closely followed by testicles

I just had this conversation with a surgeon attending to my face. He said he enjoys general surgery and that made me ask whether he ate offal. He said he did but didn't like heart!!
I couldn't possibly eat any offal, it's bad enough eating meat if you think about it alive and kicking.😬😝

My father's family were butchers, so nothing was off limits. I really like liver and kidney. I think tripe's a bit yuck - horrible texture. The only thing I really don't like is udder, but you never see it on sale these days, and I suspect a lot of these bits of animals go into pet food.

We sometimes have liver, and don't mind kidney in a pie with steak, but don't eat any other offal.

My granddad used to have honeycomb tripe with salt, pepper and vinegar on, but I never tried it. In the winter he used to have tripe with boiled onions. He used to eat udder (was called elder in these parts) but I never tried that either.
When I was little we had relatives who had moved down south, but when they came visiting, they always took some pigs trotters home with them.
There is still a stall in our meat market, that sells tripe.

Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

Nan2, that reminds me, pigs trotters and cows heels were other items my mum liked, when they were readily available!

We often have liver, bacon and onions but that is about all I can get the husband to eat. I love lunch tongue. When I was a child my mother would often cook tripe but I hated the look of it, she would also use a white sauce with onions. I haven't had it for years thank goodness. We used to have stuffed hearts but again I haven't had them for years. Husband will not eat steak and kidney pies only steak ones. I once bought steak and kidney pies and he refused to eat it. I said pick the kidney out but he said the whole pie was tainted!
