    Pastry.

Iv'e just made some corned beef and onion pies. One for eating today and some for the freezer. I have always made my own pastry, but have thought about keeping some of these in, in case I am ever pushed for time.
This is what I am talking about.

Just wondered if any of you have tried it, and if so, your opinions please.

Yes we sometimes use them for quickness not as good as home made but still tasty , always buy the flaky pastry one as life is to short to make your own and it is good quality not like years ago when it first came out , Sainsbury do there own make and it's cheaper than just roll

I usually buy the stuff you roll out and that is ok. This sounds a better idea though. Anything is better than my home made pastry though. 😝

Haven't used them myself Nanto2, but would be interested to hear if anyone else has.

Would love to hear how you make the pies, they sound lovely especially if you can freeze them. Any chance of the recipe?

I always keep some frozen shortcrust and flaky pastry (Sainsbury's or Waitrose) in the freezer. Never make Flaky always use frozen.

I haven't made flaky or puff pastry since I was at school. I always make shortcrust.

I can't make puff pastry, have only tried once but too much hard work so use the JustRol for that, but a couple of weeks ago i used the Justrol Shortcrust pastry, i didnt like that i wouldnt use it again, much prefer my own...

I always make my own shortcrust pastry in my Magimix, It takes 15 seconds to mix it plus a bit of time for weighing ingredients, and rolling out. Ready-made shortcrust hasn't got a long shelf life so you'd have to freeze it and I think defrosting it would take longer than making it fresh.

I wouldn't even think about making puff pastry, as Oma says, life's to short to make it!

I do a quick recipe for my DGs with flaky frozen pastry,I line a baking sheet with the pastry and put in 6/8 sausages and top with onions and put in the oven until the pastry is done(if you use thick sausages its best to part cook) when done just slice up and serve to the hungry boys.A sort of toad in the pastry rather than toad in the hole.

I have always used frozen pastry. I have filo, shortcrust and puff in the freezer on stand by at all times all in sheet form. My pastry making skills are zero.

Zizi - your pastry-making skills sound like mine! I'd be lost without my trusty old Magimix which really is foolproof!

If anyone is interested here is a recipe from a local baker for a sweet pastry. Put in your mixer 9ozs, butter or similar fat, 3ozs caster sugar, beat them together then beat in4 tabs of water, then add 1lb plain flour. It should all come together. Take out and rest in fridge. I must warn you that it is b....er to roll but worth it, family favourite, lovely for mince pies. I like puff pastry but it has to be warm for me but this pastry is good cold.
