    Halloumi

I keep hearing about halloumi cheese. Even the grandchildren seem to like it apparently. Has anyone ever had it or used it in a recipe. I am now getting intrigued and wonder if I am missing out on something wonderful.

It's Greek, I'm not keen on the texture which is a bit rubbery and it's also very salty, but if you grill it and then combine with other grilled vegetables such as aubergines, peppers, onions and tomatoes it makes a good lunch dish.

I read somewhere that it has to be eaten grilled when it goes crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. It does not contain rennet and is therefore popular with vegetarians. My 8 year old GD said it is nice but...

It sounds as though it's worth a try - MS's suggestions sounds tasty, and I love most cheeses.

Think I will stick with cheddar.

I've had it grilled with salad as a starter. It's OK, but a bit tasteless. Give me a bit of mature cheddar any day!

First time I had it it was cooked on the barbecue after all the meat etc - really delicious. Pretty tasteless on its own I would guess but I like the crispy on the outside and slightly rubbery texture.
