    Barbecues

It's getting to that time of the year when the barbecue gets dusted off and fired up (weather permitting!)

We've got a family get together this Sundsy for 12 of us and I'm wondering what you cook on your BBQs, what other dishes do you do and who does the actual cooking?

Hubby usually cooks the BBQ.We only cook the usual stuff, chicken(making sure it's cooked properly) steak, burgers and sausages, fried onions.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

We do the usual, but sometimes cook sardines and for our veggie DIL we do veggie kebabs and sweetcorn. In Portugal we do loads of fish and prawns.

Oh, I love barbeques! The smell of neighbours barbeques is evocative of summer family barbeques in days gone by. OH is not keen on them so we have never had one in the 4 years we have lived here.
Ex husband did the cooking and I did the salads and puds. We had all the usual meat stuff, sometimes fish too, plus corn on the cob, vegetable skewers and veggie burgers on a smaller grill for the veggie-vegans.

We like BBQ's too, loads of fresh salads, some pasta or rice salad, garlic bread, home made, fish like salmon cooks well or tuna. Don't eat much red meat and not fond of sausages, so chicken, turkey, ribs, and so on. I hope we have at least 2 BBQ days this year as it is pouring with rain, AGAIN and the coldest May I remember for a long time!

Elisi, I don't think we have had a decent May for years.

Marinated food is good but I usually find there is too much meat

Do you know I don't like BBQs I don't like eating on my knee with a paper plate and waiting for the next piece of meat to come along I give up the will to carry on, I like a proper knife and fork not plastic ones that breaks if you cut open a breadcake, things flying and buzzing round you, I am not a big meat eater anyway I seem to be stood up a lot and always come home with back ache lol do you get the picture, but I am sure you will have a lovely do Daisy

If we have a BBQ husband cooks sausages, home made burgers, kebabs, chicken etc. I do potato salad, rice salad, mixed salad, baguettes and puds. I do not use plastic cutlery or paper plates or napkins and we have a big table which we can easily sit eight around and a smaller table which suit the children. We don't do a bit here and there, it all gets put on the table under net domes (I cannot stand creatures landing on food). We have an enormous BBQ which the boys bought husband for his sixtieth, to be honest it is a bit too big for the two of us.

I do have plastic cutlery which husband takes to work to eat his lunches as he cannot take metal utensils to work for security reasons and he takes paper napkins.

Like Qwerty we're not great BBQ lovers! Although when we lived in OZ, we did! At least you could rely on the weather out there! I do enjoy eating al fresco, but at a table with proper plates and cutlery!

We love a BBQ usually SIL does the BBQ at there house we love Salmon ,and Sweetcorn ,and chicken Kebabs ,im not keen on chicken portions on there as I worry they not cooked through , home made burgers, sometimes sausages but SIL and Josh like Richmond sausage and no one else do we all prefer a good quality meat sausage . we often do Bratwurst on the BBQ ,I do a mean Potato salad and DD makes some amazing dips from scratch , DD loves Tuna steaks on the BBQ she isn't a big meat eater , we always sit around a big table in the garden with real plates and cutlery , DD had those Kath Kitsen mesh dome things in several sizes to put over the food and lights a citrus candle to deter flies
Im not fat just 6ft too small

My OH hates barbecues as well so I end up on my own barbecueing and eating in the garden. Weather permitting we sometimes have a barbecue for my birthday and GS2s usually at DD2s. Best barbecue meal was Moroccan leg of lamb stuffed with apricots and marinaded in Harissa paste, wrapped in foil and then cooked slowly on the barbecue. Worst experience was a birthday party at BIL's. Invited for 1pm having skipped breakfast in anticipation of the feast to come. They didn't even light the barbecue til 1.30! Eventually given some chicken but found it was raw inside. A few other guests had tipped theirs in the bin quietly but, given quite a few children there, I told BIL so the chicken was then put in the oven to cook some more. We just tried to fill up on salad and French sticks as I was wary of the chicken by then. SIL was really put out with me for "making trouble".

The best barbecues I have been to are given by friends of friends! I wouldn't class them as our friends, but they have a big bbq in their garden in late June and we are always invited. We go most years but this time we can't as we will be on holiday.
The spread is amazing. Every type of salad imaginable, plus bread, butter, cheeses, fruit etc is laid out in the dining room. On the bbq all the usual meats, plus a salmon or 2, corn on the cob and veggie fare.. We all take a bottle, but there are ice filled bins around with beer, wine etc and prepared jugs of Pimms. Fresh strawberries, meringues, cream and cheesecakes finish the meal.
I'm sorry to be missing it!.

Wow, that sounds like a BBQ and a half.
