    Vitamin D

There has been a lot in the news recently about vitamin D.
It has many benefits, especially in winter. My daughter was prescribed it a year or two ago when she was feeling ill and vitamin D deficiency was diagnosed.
There is an opinion that it may help with covid recovery as well.
It seems a very good idea to take it. We don't currently but intend to both start as soon as I buy some.

    Do you take this supplement?

I have taken it a few years and have it included in my blood tests for the levels. Mine was very low a few years ago, I don't get much sun to my skin with having to wear the tights and sleeves, only my face and hands get the sun.

Gem, i know someone that takes it during the winter, because our sun is not strong enough to provide during the winter.
She doesn't take it in the summer, says she gets enough from the sun in summer.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I have been taking it for a few years because of low Vit D , remember when my hair started to fall out and then my Parathyroid problem ,
Most people take it between October and April , i take it all year round so does B
It does make a difference i think

We don't take it specifically, but we do take a general 'catch all' multi-vitamin tablet, zinc tablets and glucosamine and chondroitin for our creaking joints.

I'm also trying to make sure we have more than our 5-a-day fruit and veggies. It was easy during the summer. It's harder now, but I try and gt at least 7 a day.

OH also takes supplements to help with his AMD.

Yes, we both take it. Higher dose in winter and a reduced dose in summer. My daughter was struggling to conceive her second baby so a lovely lady GP tested her Vit D levels as my daughter isn’t really the outdoors type. Blood test showed very very low levels and she was immediately put on a high dose. She was pregnant within two months. Coincidence? We’ll never know. But it is an incredibly important Vit which we need for every cell in our body. πŸ™‚

I take VitD, it was prescribed by the doctor after a blood test. I also take iron. I used to take zinc, chondroitin and glucosamine Perhaps I should start it again for my aching bones. Oh and I am prescribed calcium, keep forgetting to take it. I already take 6 tablets with my breakfast, I will start rattling if I add anymore.

When the COVID virus started stalking us two friends of mine, one a retired Dr and the other who used to be the head of clinical teaching at Oxford Brooks emailed me urgently instructing (not advising!) us both to take Vitamin D. So we do. Interestingly, there have been a number of well researched studies published since then supporting the benefits of Vit D especially in the northern hemisphere. Obviously, it’s only one factor of many, but it seems sensible to take a daily tablet.

Daisy my friend advises that there isn’t sufficient Vit D in a general tablet and advises one 1000 IC tablet each day.

Sum - I didn't realise that. I know what I'm going to add to my shopping list straight away. Many thanks.

Aggie - I hope you are ok and coping with all the rain you seem to be having over there.

My DIL1 andI were talking about taking tablets yesterday. She's on HRT and keeps forgetting to take them, and we had a chat about her morning routine and the one thing she does first thing every day without fail is clean her teeth, so she's going to keep her tablets next to her toothbrush in the bathroom. I think it helps if tablets are in packets with the days printed on them so you can actually see if you've missed one, but most just seem to be loose in a container.

We keep ours in the bedside drawer and put them on the tea tray every morning, so they end up downstairs to have with breakfast.
