    Cookery Books

Enfys mentioned in Chat that instead of replacing their broken dishwasher she's going to have some shelves for her cookery books.

What cookery books do you use - the same one or two all the time, or do you keep books which you only use for one recipe, or do you just like reading them?

I've got a small bookcase in the hall where I keep my cookery books, and there are some I only use for one or two things. I've got a ring binder (which I'll get organised one day) for recipes I've collected from various places, and some books I keep just because I keep them.

Occasionally I get the urge to browse through one of them, find lots of things I'd like to try but have never got the right ingredients for. So I go and lie down in a darkened room until the urge passes!

We have a few cookery books, which OH uses at times. I never do. I either cook with no recipe or find one online.
We had a lot of cookery books when I was with my ex, who loves cooking, and they all went with him. I often bought him glossy cookbooks as presents.

Gem - I think cookery books are lovely presents, but I feel guilty if I don't find at least a couple of useful recipes in them. Like you, I mostly don't use a recipe or get one online. I have started printing those one out and putting them in my ring binder, and I do often go back to them.

I used to have a load of cookery books. One day i decided to get rid of them.
They never got used anyway. All i have now is my Be-Ro books.
I have got a Be-Ro book that belonged to my gran, and she's been dead 54 years.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I have quite a few but nowadays don’t use them much. I have several Jane Grigson books which are good to read anyway but have some really good recipes which I use often. I like Mary Berry’s recipes too, they seldom fail. I do find stuff on line too.
Nanto, I inherited my MiL’s Bero book and it has now been passed on to DD2, she takes after MiL who was a really good cook.
I’m just rubbish at chucking stuff out. 🙄

I have several Delia and Mary Berry cookbooks. I have a notebook with old favourites such as my mothers Christmas pudding recipe. They sit on one shelf in a larder/cupboard in the kitchen. I have my mothers gas cooker cookery book she gave me when I left home. Good old basics in there. Also I have several Weight Watchers books.

I've got a Delia book which was a Readers' Digest offering many years ago. It's falling apart but there are several recipes I use. I've also got a Mrs Beeton book - the first cookery book I eve had when I was a teenager.

Last Christmas I was given Nigella's latest and it's more narrative, like a story, than an actual cookery book. I haven't tried anything from it yet.

I have one shelf in a kitchen cupboard with cookery books. All the books have post it notes sticking out, marking favourite recipes. My favourite recipe book, that I’d never part with, is my be-ro cookery book that I’ve had since I was at school. The staples holding the book together have gone a bit rusty but I don’t mind.

                        I don't have a Be-Ro Cookery Book! I was probably a deprived child!

Although, as I've said, I have got a Mrs Beeton who says lovely things like "put it in a slow oven until it's cooked".

Fashions change even in cookery - some of the ingredients she suggests would be hard to come by these days.
