granma2aj - my OH lost well over a stone on it lover a year ago. I thought 600 (the recommended amount for men) calories was a bit too low for him, so as Chef-in-Charge I didn't count the calories too carefully! But he recorded his weight after each 'fast' day and found it motivating to see it coming down steadily.
He's put some weight back on over Christmas so is going to start again as soon as I can get my head in gear for the right ingredients.
I tried to do it with him, but to be honest, I was very half-hearted about it. He always did one day when I had the children and I found it impossible to survive on 500 cals on those days. I only lost about 3 lbs, but I full accept that was my own fault. I think I'll try a bit harder when we start again.
Dr Mosely ( who devised the 5:2 diet) has a new version of it ' Fast 800 Diet' which is supposed to be beneficial for your blood sugar as well.
