    Scones

I made these for tea today.

With them come the age old debates. Is it scone as in “stone” or scone as in “gone”. I favour the former. Also is it cream or jam first ?

Definitely 'gone' Clover! No cream in Scotland ( well not when I lived there!), but butter and jam, preferably home made!
Hope you enjoyed them whatever you put on them first!

Bought some buttermilk to make some tomorrow. Scone as in gone here and jam first. Growing up it was butter (or marg). Cheese scones with a touch of English mustard are the best though!

They look delicious, Clover, whatever we call them. It's 'stone' here, and as I can't eat cream I don't have the problem of what to put on first, but if I was serving someone else it would be jam then cream.

Shem - cheese scones with a touch of mustard sound yummy!

Imust have another go at making scone - I've made them once and the results varied from not bad to burnt, all in the same batch.

                They look so nice

I say scone as in gone, and like my jam before my cream.

Shem I haven't heard of making scones ('stones') with buttermilk. Where do you get it? Could you share the recipé please? Too late for me to check through all the recipés on here to see if there's already one on. Thanks.

Buttermilk Scones are lovely Nana , so are plain scones made with Lemonade .
B loves cheese scones with Coleman's English mustard Daisy and he likes cubes of cheese running through grated seems to loose some of it flavour if grated too fine

It's the one thing I make better than B

I think there are a few scone recipes on the recipes section Nana.

                          * Edited to add these scone recipes from the Recipe section . Not sure if they use buttermilk though.

Scones as in "gone" around here and jam first,I use natural yogurt instead of mlk sometimes and they do tend to come out lighter,I love the Mary Berry recipe and the old recipe from The Dairy Book of Home Cooking which I got from my old milkman many years ago.

If any milk has “gone off” I use that and sometimes yoghurt.

Glam I’ve also still got that cookery book I got from the milkman
