    Sentimental things

I have a picture on my wall that my late sister bought me just before she died ,
Its nothing special but I love it , I saw it when I was out with her one day and commented how nice it was , it wasn't more than £10 and she bought it as a Christmas Present for me ( she died in the February, 14 years ago )

Its been on various walls over the years and now its in my living room ,
At Christmas I put it away because the Christmas tree was going in the corner of the room against the wall the picture was on ,
Well when I came to put it back up the glass had all cracked , I was really upset ,

The frame is a bit tatty in places and now no glass but I have put it back up regardless , I will replace the glass, B thinks it will cost more to have glass cut than it cost but I don't care I cant part with it .

Oh yes, Oma, replace the glass. Some things matter such a lot, not for their value, but for what they mean to us or remind us of.

There's lots of picture framing places about Oma. I doubt it would cost a fortune for new glass. Other than that Wilko sell reasonable priced frames & lots are standard sizes. Maybe you could use the glass from one of these if all else fails? Too precious not to keep.x

It doesn't really matter what the cost to replace the glass , the sentiment that matters, money can't buy that.
            Its a lovely picture Oma.

I have a huge painting of a lion on the wall in our hall , really its too big for the size of the hall but it doesn't matter as my dad brought it me for my birthday almost 40 years ago .

Oma I would personally have it professionally reframed to your own liking as it is such a precious and sentimental picture it wouldn't cost too much in the scheme of things I think.
I have an oil painting only a small one painted by a Russian artist that we bought at an event in Spain when we lived there,it shows the headland and bay to the front of Altea just a short way from where we lived every time I sit and look at it for a while it transports me back to the time we lived there and brings back wonderful memories of that time.
The Artist was a poor man who was supporting his family by travelling up and down the coast with his work I think we paid about 25 euros for it at the time and always wonder if he ever made it to the big time with his work maybe I have an original masterpiece on my wall you never know.

I would definately have the glass replaced if it was a sentimental treasure.

Hope you are able to get a frame the same size to replace the glass. It would be nice if you can keep it in the same fame as that and the picture have sentimental memories. X

We have an anvil OH got from work when he retired they were moving premises and he asked for it, he used it himself at the same college he went to as a
lad and ended up teaching there ,so very sentimental it stands outside as a garden feature and he paints it black every other year I will take a pic in daylight

Oma - I agree with Glamm. If you take it into a picture framing shop you can choose exactly what moulding (frame) you want, how much mount and in any colour, as well as getting new glass for it. The monetary value of the picture is irrelevant - you love it, it's special so treat it to a nice frame for the New Year. It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg.

You'd be amazed how much difference a custom-made frame makes to any artwork, and this is something you probably look at every day.

I used to love helping customers to choose frames and mounts when I helped out in DS2's shop. The right one could transform even a dreary picture, and yours is certainly not dreary!
