    Great niece

For Christmas my Great Niece got a new 67 reg car from her parents ,
This morning her my niece and husband went out in it shopping and as the roads were bad the traffic was going slowly until a woman came up behind them at some speed and rammed into the back of them ,
The car is a write off , Great niece and her dad have whip lash injuries and my Niece has massive bruising to her lower back where the back seat she was sitting in was pushed forward with the force , luckily they are all ok no broken bones just shook up ,
Great niece is gutted her brand new car less than a week old is no more ,
Police said they will be charging this woman with driving without due care and attention

They ok that's the main thing a car can be replaced lives cant

Poor family. I am glad they only suffered bruising and nothing worse. I know that when I had only had my car a couple of weeks and someone rear ended me I was upset but to hVe it written off is pretty bad. Still as you say cars can be replaced and the important thing is that the family are relatively OK

About 10 years ago we had just picked our brand new reg car up from the show room drove no more than 500 yards when a foreign lorry driver side swiped us pushing us into the barrier and taking out both sides of the car , we were in his blind spot he didn't see us till it was too late .
All the drivers side was smashed in and passenger side where we hit the barrier ,
Luckily we were not hurt but the brand new car was a total mess
Now we try to avoid getting along side a left hand drive lorry if we can

Oma because we are so close to the airport we have a lot of dual carriageway main roads and a lot of foreign lorry drivers. I try to make sure I am in the outside lane if I am on certain roads. What does annoy me is that they ignore the signs not to drive through the village and frequently whack the sides of cars (parking only on one side of the road and all half on pavement as not a lot of room). Because they are so big and hefty most of the time I don’t think they realise what they have done BUT all they need to do is obey the lorry ban signs, it will only take them an extra five minutes to get to the cargo terminals. I have had my cars whacked about nine times in the last seventeen years. Fortunately not the latest car but it really is only a matter of time.

Oma - your poor Great Niece - she must be very upset, but thank goodness the injuries weren't worse. Whip lash can be quite serious though, so I hope they have been checked out by a doctor. The other driver must have been going at quite a speed to do that much damange.

Daisy new cars these days seem to be made to behave in a certain way on impact to minimise injury I think. When that bloke ran into the back of my new car we were in a queue that was almost stationary but he still did a lot of damage. Luckily my car has a feature which locks the brakes temporarily so you don’t hurtle into the car in front. With my car they took the bumper off, realigned the exhausts and replaced the bumper. It is still upsetting to have a bash like that especially when you have others in the car (and the fact that it was new) I do hope that Oma’s family are not too sore tomorrow.

Yes Daisy they were taken to hospital by ambulance and stayed all day having tests and xrays ,
My niece had a scan too as its not long ago she had neck surgery to fuse two bones together ,

While I was on the phone telling my other sister the news , B rang my niece she was quite tearful but ok very sore ,
She said my Great niece was gutted about the car she;s only 18 and at uni in Sheffield so they bought this car for her so she had a safe reliable car to get about in and get home for visits ,
She will get a new replacement from insurers of course but its still upsetting .

My Nephew in law when they got home from hospital before they settled in for the night made her drive their car around for a while so she got straight back in the saddle so to speak .

Its the damage done underneath the car that's made it a write off all the chassis and axle were all pushed forward and out of line ,

Oma hope your niece is feeling better.
DIL has had whiplash twice. In fact she has had three accidents that weren’t her fault. First one a car went into the back of her whilst she was waiting at a red light, causing whiplash, second was yet again when she was stationary, this caused whiplash again and the under aged, uninsured driver , who was driving his mums car without her knowledge ended up in court. She had a payout on that case.
The third one was just before Christmas. This time the car was a right off but she was within days off picking up her new car. The young driver pulled out from a side road and shot across tow lanes of traffic to hit DIL’s car. Luckily no one was hurt but both cars were write offs .
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

That’s terrible, Oma. I do hope they are all OK, whiplash can be nasty. But it could have been so much worse so they are lucky I suppose that no one was badly injured. An awful shock for them all.

Oma - I'm glad they had a thorough check up, but they must all be feeling very shaken. Well done to your Nephew in law for getting his DD back into a car and driving straight away.

My OH was rear-ended when he was towing the trailer some years ago. The impact pushed the trailer right into the engine compartment of the car which hit him, and the driver tried to blame OH!! He thought he was OK until a few days later when his neck became very painful. At the point of impact he'd turned his head left to check a side road and that's when the jolt occurred. It took ages to heal - well over a year.

Oma that is shocking, glad they weren’t too badly hurt but you have to think as hard as it is considering it’s a new car, it is only a car and as long as they are ok that’s all that matters you can get another car you can’t replace a person
