Not what you call a good start.

On Thursday OH had the same symptoms as the last time he had a thrombosis in his shoulder. He was at the A&E dpt & critical care ward for 8hrs before he came home. The staff were apologetic but they really were trying their best. They were really rushed off their feet. He had the appropriate tests & a blood thinning jab, just in case and sent home. He had to return the next day for a scan.

I just couldn't go with him the day after, the 22nd, as it was the second anniversary of mum's death. He had the scan but needed another using dye as the first hadn't shown enough information. He went at 2 & got back about 9pm. The good news is that there was no clot but if it happens again he has to go immediately to A&E.

He's now in bed coughing & spluttering with a horrendous cold. Poor bloke's had a rotten time these past few months. Because DD1 & boys are here tomoro for 5 days I needed to put clean bedding on & generally clean. I'd just started on the bathroom, after doing two bedrooms, & let the folding clothes dryer down .....with my ring finger trapped between the blummin' contraption!!!!. I've used the ice method to bring down the swelling & strapped it to the finger next to it. 😲

Our Christmas Eve tradition was pork pie & pickles after midnight mass, when it was at midnight. Now we just have the pork pie & pickles for supper. Not sure that will happen tonight. Off to finish cleaning downstairs now & do what prep I can before tomoro.

Once the children get here we'll forget all about our 'not so good start'.

Nana - what a start to Christmas. Thank goodness there was no clot, that's the most important thing. Your poor finger must be so sore though, and it makes it harder to do anything. Try not to think about the jobs you haven't been able to get done - your DD1 and grandsons would rather have you as relaxed as possible far more than all your job list ticked off. Don't get overtired and make yourself ill.

As Qwerty says, there are so many people poorly at the moment, I think a lot of people's Christmases will be disrupted by it all.

                  Take care. xx

Nana - how is your poorly OH and your damaged finger? I realise you are probably too busy to get online to chat with the family with you, but just to say 'Thinking about you". x

Glam - Glad to hear your DD is feeling better. x

Thank you everyone for your concerns. OH is gradually getting better from his heavy cold. I'm contemplating going to the pop-in centre after lunch to have my finger checked. I'm hoping they may do an x-ray.

I wonder if anyone else on here had such an awful Christmas as me. You all seem to have had a great time. If I had a car & could drive, I'd be off like a shot. I was going to write in YEO but why should anyone want to read my sadness.

Nana, so sorry to hear that. I hope it was nothing serious. Please write in YEO, it sometimes helps to get things of your chest and you know how much support there is for us in here. Hope you’re OK x

Nana - I'm glad to hear your OH is feeling a bit better, but it sounds as though your finger is still very painful.

Christmas can be an awful strain on families and it's often us the 'grandparent' generation who takes the brunt of it. We're also under great pressure to make it a good family occasion - but it doesn't always work out like that. Most years recently I've been too tired by all the preparations and cooking to relax and enjoy it, and I didn't realise how much until this year when I only 'did' GD2's birthday party. You have had DD and GCs for 5 days - which is an awful long time even when you're both feeling fit and well. Be kind to yourself. Do write in YEO - it might help to get it off your chest and as Enfys says we all support each other. xx

Yes Nana do write in YEO. Even if we can”t help we can listen and to have a private outlet often helps.x Glad OH is slowly recovering and I think it’s a good idea to get your finger checked.
