    Winter Weddings

Yesterday was my Sister & BIL,s 50th wedding anniversary and last Saturday was my Brother & SIL,s 50th , my parents had a busy Christmas that year 2 big wedding within a week , I remember them both ,
When my Brother was married as a bridesmaid I wore a short sleeved pink floaty dress with netting under that came to my knees , I remember I was freezing and had to put a coat on in between photos .
The next week when my Sister was married I wore a long sleeved Red velvet dress with white fur at the neck and cuffs and a white fur hand muff, much warmer and practical,
The vicar commented on how practical the dresses were for a Christmas wedding compared to some he had seen , like my Brothers wedding . Has anyone else been to a winter wedding and what did they wear ?
This year has been the first in a very long time I haven't seen them all on there Anniversary and being the big 50 I felt a bit sad to be honest but needs must 😊

The only winter wedding i have been to, was our eldest in February 1999(divorced now).
The eldest grandaughter wore a white sleevless dress. I knitted her white furry bolero style jacket to go with it.
It was a register office wedding and all photos were taken indoors.
To be honest, i can't remember it being all that cold.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

My niece got married in the winter, we had freezing fog so the photos that the photographer looked dull. Luckily the photos he took indoors looked so much better.

My eldest sister was married in March, as bridesmaids my middle sister and I wore lilac short sleeved dresses. I remember shivering while the photos were being taken.

My middle daughter was married on December 20th. She loves Christmas and wanted a beautiful winter wedding with Christmas trees and candles everywhere. It was quite magical! I wore a long dress with little matching jacket. It was fairly thin material but wasn't cold at all. Most photos were indoors. The bride and bridesmaids had (fake) fur stolls.

I married in March and my bridesmaids wore long red velvet dresses. It was very frosty I remember as it was a morning ceremony.

In the 60s there was a fashion for velvet wedding and bridesmaid dressed, with long sleeves and capes with hoods and fur trimmings. I thought they looked so romantic as well as being practical.

I never photographed a wedding in the depths of winter - and never wanted to because the days are so short and the light levels very low. Snow can be even worse with all the different whites and getting detail in both whites and blacks. Modern cameras have come on in leaps and bounds, but I still wouldn't want to do it!

Oma - what a pity you and B weren't able to celebrate two such big events, but you can always have a catch up celebration when B is back in the social whirl.

We celebrate our 45th Anniversary today! It was a dreich Scottish day as I recall and most photographs were taken inside the Church, I didn't have a bridesmaid, my brother was my witness! Funnily enough, today was a bit gloomy in Suffolk where we spent the weekend too! My mother wore the most fantastic hat with feathers and our best man said she floated down the aisle and was very elegant!

WeeGranny - what lovely memories of your wedding day. A dreich Scottish day was probably as good as it gets at this time of the year. It's better than being snowed in and you and your guests being unable to get to the wedding, or coping with the dreadful floods which seem to plague us in recent years. Your mum must have been so happy for you and your OH. I hope you've had a lovely week-end in Suffolk. x

My parents were married on 2nd Feb , in the photos Mum has a very snooty pose , looking down her nose at the camera . She always said it was so cold and she had a drip on the end of her nose , so kept her head up to stop it dripping

Eight years ago today my middle daughter was married. It meant my favourite SIL became my actual SIL, and my first GC was to arrive 10 months later

Aww, thank you Daisy. For the first time they haven't had a weekend away to celebrate. I'm sure they will next year, when the baby
                              is older
