    Oh dear
Yes, perhaps the white lie, or keeping the fantasy alive a little longer may have been a good idea!

When mine asked these sort of questions I always said they are real if you believe in them. Particularly in DD3s case, when some dear child told the class there was no Santa, and parents brought your presents. I said this girl and her sister got presents from their parents as they were brought up to not believe in Santa, so he couldn't come to them.
That kept her going for another couple of years at least

That was part of the conversation as well Gem, classmates saying no Santa, no easter bunny either. Struggle for an almost 10 year old who so wants to believe, but also not wanting to seem the odd one out.

It's tricky at her age Libra. As you say, wanting to believe but at the same time wanting to fit in.
DD3 was about your GDs age when like yours she was 'on the cusp' of not believing.
Purely by chance she got something in her stocking that year which kept her believing a while longer!

I worked with someone who was an Avon rep. I ordered from her a tube of Bath confetti, little flakes of brightly coloued soap to sprinkle in the bath. According to DD, no shops in the world sold anything like that, so it proved Santa was real

Bless her, I tried to keep the GDs believing in Santa for years.Eventually I had to admit defeat.

                  Bah, Humbug, Nanto!!!

I remember our Grandsons going through a phase of double standards concerning the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny and that other person in a red coat. They knew these characters didn't exist but still believed they brought presents.

Such a shame when someone bursts the bubble of believing we try to keep them young and innocent don't we my two big DCs where under threat if they let the cat out of the bag to their younger brother and when he did tell us he knew all was make believe he told us he had known for a few years and was playing along with us.

Glamm - I suppose the little one was worried the presents wouldn't appear if he confessed he knew the truth!
