Daisy how odd to ban the sale of bibles in a Christian country on a Sunday. When you look at the situation now where you can go into the supermarket and buy absolutely anything from sanitary products to computer printers and nobody bats an eyelid. It is also true that today at the supermarkets it was probably bonkers with people buying trolley loads of food because it is bank holiday tomorrow and therefore CLEARLY everyone will starve to death if you don't go and spend a fortune today!!!!

The idea of restricting what could be sold on a Sunday was originally decided by whether it was "perishable" or not. So newspaper are "perishable" - today's newspaper will not sell tomorrow but bibles stocked today will sell tomorrow. Seems weird now but there was some logic to it. I remember helping in a shop and we had to cover the nonsalable items with sheets so that people would understand they were not for sale. Some shops sectioned off part of the shop for the same reason.
Be careful when blindly following the Masses.
Sometimes the 'M' is silent.
