DH was cleaning all the outside white paintwork for me this morning and he came in and said he needed the Jif. It got me thinking because Jif, of course, has been called Cif for many years. It will always be Jif to us though. Then I got thinking about other things which we haven't seem to be able to change. Bombay will never be Mumbai and we still talking about feet and inches instead of centimetres. What hasn't changed in your house? I bet there are a lot more things.

Pounds and ounces , feet and inches , Marathons will never be Snickers too us . I hate when they change names to accommodate other countries , I'm a old fashioned girl I stick with what I was brought up with , if anyone asks me about cm,mm, meter,s I call it funny money 😊 I also dislike when my kids say 24/7 how hard is it to say 24 hours a day 7 days a week ,Im not fat just 6ft too small

Yes Oma pounds and ounces always. I am a really pleased to find a recipe which uses these rather than the update. If something is a foot long then I can visualise it - but cms? No way! I still remember that 100 pence is eight and fourpence. Silly and pointless but it is there is my brain.Be careful when blindly following the Masses.

We still work in feet and inches and pound and ounces. I wish the young ones wouldn't say 24/7.
I don't use text speak either, my kids laugh at me because I still write in full English when texting.
This topic just reminded me of something hubby asked for today,he said have you got any wimsol or vim, er no I said.Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

It depends what it is as far as imperial/metric is concerned. Our dog weighs 25.3 kg, I weigh ... well something in stones and pounds which i can't quite recall! Generally feet and inches, but if I want to say a very small measurement I'd say 2 to 3 mm. But I only cook metric food. I can visualise say 25 g of butter better than the ounce equivalent.
We still say Jif - but I did wonder if we should change when OH came home from the supermarket with a liquid filled plastic thing!!!

I work in pounds and ounces and feet and inches, I think it's a generational thing!
I have finally got used to temperatures being 20 something rather than 70 something!
Cif is a silly name, let's campaign to keep it Jiff
Mind you, it used to be called Vim or Ajax, didn't it? It was a white powder with blue flecks and came in cardboard cylindrical canisters.“A grandchild fills a space in your heart that you never knew was empty.” – Unknown

When I see the temperature in C I still tend to double it and add 30 to give me an approximate temp in F. That way I know how hot or cold it is going to be. I still do the rhymes they taught us when we switched from imperial. A litre of water's a pint and three quarters etc. I am always surprised to hear old fashioned phrases from younger people. A young man recently told me that his wife doesn't work she's a housewife he said. You don't hear that we often now I thought.Be careful when blindly following the Masses.

At Time to Shine we had a blind boy called Liam. He was born with some sight but not much and he finally lost all of it when he was five. His father was determined that he wouldn't consider himself disabled and taught him as much as he could before his sight finally went for good. He trialled for the England blind under twenty football team a couple of weekends ago. We had a one day event at a school, some years ago and the cricket coach was instructing him in metres, his dad told the coach that Liam only understood yards and feet because that was what he was taught in so there was a s trance scene where the young cricket coach was giving instructions and pausing so Dad could translate metres to yards and feet!
I can just about get my head around metres but prefer yards and feet, temperature however defeats me so I have set my computer to "proper" figures .......
Other than that there are a lot of things that I buy from the olden days. I only ever buy Domestos, always Johnson baby wipes and talcum, Fairy wash up liquid, Elnett hairspray and probably a lot more wch could be cheaper if I bought own brand. If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together

Gem - I miss Vim or Ajax scouring powder. It's the only thing that gets our ceramic butler sink in the utility room clean!
Zizi - I think some brands survive against cheaper competition just because they are better. Own brand loo cleaner or washing up liquid always seems watery and in effective.
Glam - I find shoe sizes confusing, but I've finally worked out UK and Continental sizes. American sizes leave me very confused.
