My auntie has broken her hip!

On Monday my lovely Auntie G fell and broke her hip
She has had a replacement which went and she will hopefully be moved to a rehab place next week.
She is fit and strong for her age and I'm sure she will be back in her flat asap, probably with carers at first.
My cousin said she is very cross with herself!

We were only talking about her the other day and saying we must go to see her after our holiday.

We will send a card tomorrow and see her as soon as we can

Oh, Gem, what an awful thing to happen to such an independent lady. I do hope she gets back to her normal level of mobility. She will find it very frustrating, though.
    Get well soon, Auntie G

Oh poor aunt Gladys, I hope this doesn't knock her confidence,
I think she will be determined to get back to her flat,
Rehab is a wonderful transition from hospital to home so hopefully she will get in there quickly.

So sorry to hear this Gem. I hope she makes a full and speedy recovery. She sounds a lovely lady from what you tell us about her.

              I keep forgetting to update!

Auntie G is slowly recovering. She was moved to a rehabilitation place and then home.
Although she hadn't had to use them previously there are carers based where she lives, and any resident can have a temporary or permanent care package.
She has carers coming in every day at present. A couple of nights ago she had a fall (no damage done thank goodness) after sending the bed time carers away then falling getting into bed!

My cousin tells me she has had a telling off now! I told him to tell her that not accepting the right level of help now means having to have more in the long run! I know she must feel frustrated and want to get back to normal.
We are going to see her next week.

Gemini, I don’t know if it would help but I bought a strong bed guard which has a light incorporated in the frame which comes on when I get out of bed at night. It has a very strong frame and fits under the mattress.

Gem, poor Au tie G. She is probably very cross with herself for the fall, but I do hope she is accepting the temporary help she needs at the moment. I'm sure she will be delighted to see you next week.

Plant's suggestion is a very good one. Anything that will help to keep her safe. Also it eases both her son's worries about her and yours. Perhaps this is a good approach to encouraging her to accept any help she needs while she recovers.

Plant, what a good idea . I will look into this and let my cousin know

Daisy, she is looking forward to seeing us and appreciated the cards we sent. One was a photo card with me and Auntie at the seaside last year 😊
