    BBQ

Been to Brian brothers for a family BBQ tonight had a lovely time started to get a bit chilly then started to rain but we had all drifted indoors by then so didn't spoil anything . But why do all the men all of a sudden become master chefs when a BBQ comes out ? It was like a meeting of the clans with them all standing around it 😀

Yes, it is fascinating to watch, usually they are joined by the dog in our house

No idea Oma, although OH is exactly the same. Something to do with something primeval "Look, I hunted this down in the supermarket and I'm gonna cook it, so I'm the Man, and I'm gonna chew the fat with my mates and drink beer while I'm standing guard over my prize" ......or words to that effect!

The same thing happens here as well Oma. I just sit back and let them get on with it.

I have to admit we are BBQ 'virgins' .
We have never owned or even used a BBQ , it couldhave something to do with the fact we are not too keen on BBQ food and I never eat, steaks, beef burgers or sausages and since OHs heart attack he doesn't eat them now also. When I have been to family and friends BBQs I usually eat the jacket potatoes and salad .

Me too Mimi. I'm not a big meat eater, so tend to eat mostly the baked potato, salads and bread, maybe a sausage, or salmon if that is on offer.
            I do like BBQs though!

It's the same in our house - or garden! But OH 'does' the BBQ, while I prepare salads, coleslaw, precook chicken, make bbq sauce for ribs, run round fetching and carrying, etc, etc. And all the time he gets to enjoy being outside in the sunshine, beer or glass of wine in one hand, man-size bbq tool in the other.

Mimi - we went to several barbeques when we were in America and they all featured large quantities of fish - really delicious!

That sounds really nice, far better than the huge packet of poor quality sausages that seems to be on offer when ever I am around.

Same scenario here ladies all the men gather around the barbeque tell each other how they would do the cooking (something they would never try with us ladies) they then drift off to their man caves, youngest son once asked his Uncle if he had any more of those "unleaded burgers please" it didn't go down too well with the chef.lol.

I like ostrich burgers Oma. I can't eat beef, but do like to have burger once in a while!

My OH stays as far away from the barbecue as he possibly can - he is quite happy to cook in the kitchen but really doesn't see the point in cooking and eating outdoors - shame as I love them. DS doesn't get involved either but luckily both SILs are excellent bbq "chefs"! OH prepared a Moroccan leg of lamb which SIL cooked beautifully - really delicious.

Daisy, that's us too. But unlike the rest of you, we have a daily battle over who is going to cook. We both like cooking, both think we're very good at it, and since OH now only works part time he has a lot of time and energy left to appropriate the kitchen. We've reached a sort of compromise with him dealing with fish and the small amount of red meat that we eat and me doing the rest - except baking all the bread and making the pasta.

It's the same in DDS's house too. And SiL's. What a turnaround from generations past.

MS, that sounds like a good compromise. I'd be over the moon if my OH liked cooking. A few days ago he had to phone DS2 to ask how to cook some chicken for the dog, because he couldn't contact me! 😏
