    Brave Niece

Yesterday one of our Nieces traveled to London for a medical to Donate her Bone marrow to someone she has found to be a match with ,
She is in perfect health so on the 25th of this month she will start her 4 day treatment to harvest her bone marrow at University hospital in London

We are so proud of her ,
It is her Birthday today she is 29

As we know its not the nicest feelin we watched Martin feel unwell when he donated to Brian but its short term and worth the discomfort .
She is only a small girl so they have said they will start the injections and take it the Dialysis way but she has consented that if they cant get enough they can operate and go through her hip,

She has only been on the Anthony Nolan list 6 month ,
I hope it works for the person receiving her bone marrow

Oh well done to her Oma! That's a wonderful thing to be doing. I hope she doesn't have too much pain afterwards, and that is is a success.

I was on the Antony Nolan Bone marrow register from my late 20s until I reached the age when they 'retire' you!
I was a near match, once but fell at the third hurdle. I would have been glad to have been able to help someone, and I always hope my near match found their perfect donor.

Oma, what a wonderfull thing to do.
I can remember many yearsa go,reading Shirley Nolans book, A Kiss Through Glass.
In fact, i think it was this book that got me into reading true stories.
Sadly, Shirley took her own life after being diagnosed with Parkinsons disease, which made her very ill.

Oma - what a wonderful young lady she is - brave and unselfish. I'm sure your whole family is proud of her.

I do hope the procedure goes smoothly and successfully for her and for her recipient. Will she be told if it's successful?

This is one birthday she will always remember - and next year she will have to have a triple celebration - once for this year and double for her 30th.

I think you would have a special bond with someone who had saved your life by donating. It would be nice to at least know that it had been successful.
