How near or far do your family live?

I was was thinking that for me one DD has moved closer and one may move further away, and wondering where everyone's family lives, and has lived.

My DD1 lived in Edinburgh after she graduated there, then Glasgow where SIL is from. They returned to Yorkshire just before they got married 12 or 13 years ago. They lived a 30 to 40 minutes drive from us until a few weeks ago. Now they live a couple of miles away I never expected them to move back from Scotland, so to have them now so close is lovely.

DD2 moved to the village they now live in roughly 15 years ago, moving to a bigger house in the same village 9 years ago. You get a lot more property for your money there, about 25 to 30 minutes from York, so I doubt they will move any closer.

DD3 lives in York, probably about 15 minutes drive away from us.
I feel so lucky to have them all so close.

DD3 and SIL would love a slightly bigger house and some garden, and feel they will have to be some miles away to afford that. It will be less than an hour's drive I'm sure, so still fairly local compared to many people's family.

Mum, who lived about 2 to 3 miles away (10 to 20 minutes drive depending on traffic) now lives in the same village as DD2.

DD is about 80 miles away. An hour and a half to 2 hours travelling time. Hopefully will be twenty minutes away if our house move goes to plan!

DS is in Slovakia. A couple of hours away by plane! It's unlikely he will ever move back to this country as he's hoping to become a Slovakian citizen in due course.

DB and his family live in Scotland. His DD is in the same village but his DS lives not too far from where we are now.

Various other family members live within a short distance by car.

Our DS1 and family live about 75 miles away, a journey which can be done in just over an hour or can take 2 ½ hrs on a bad day!

DS2 and family are only about 8 miles away, and it generally takes 15-20 minutes to drive there.

OH had two nieces who both live about 15 miles away, but the rest of the family are scattered around Wales and NW England, with one sibling in America, and their eldest DD lives in Switzerland.

As you all know, DD and Sil live next door and have done for over 20 years, they have 4 children, their eldest was 12 and the youngest was 3 when they moved in to the main bungalow. DS and Dil live 20 mins away by car, they have 2 sons GS3 and 4 still at home. GS1, his wife and two children are about 20 mins drive away. GS2 and his partner are about to move into a flat in North London. GD1, partner and baby H live about 15 mins away and GD2 and her partner live in South London

Oops. That wasn’t meant to happen. I was saying my DS and DD live 5 mins away from each other. I live an hour and a quarter from them. It is good that I can usually get to see them both on the same day, although during lockdown I’m only allowed to travel locally. Hopefully soon we will be back to meet up again properly. I’m still not sure how long the travel local rule will apply. I am hoping it is only until the end of the month. 🤞

My DD lives about 10mins from me with her youngest two children the other four have all left home, eldest DGS works and lives in Liverpool so easy to see him via train or bus 25mins,2nd DGS & partner & GGCs live 25mins away in their house,DGSs 3&4 share a house about 15mins away so all very close to me.
DS 1 and wife live 20mins walk away with my youngest DGD they have always lived local,DS1 once lived in Scotland with previous girlfriend but after her becoming quite jealous of him even talking to me he moved back here.
DS2 lived with us in Spain then moved back to Swansea with then girlfriend after we moved back to UK he split up with her and moved back to live with his sister until he met his wife and married they lived locally and then moved to Leek for work, they have just moved back to here and now have a house not to far away about 20mins in the car. They never ever settled in Leek for some reason.
I love having my ACs close by but would never complain if they decided to move away they always keep in touch where ever they are.

Glamm - it's lovely that they are all pretty local to you. Your DS2 probably felt Leek was too far away and I'm sure he's feeling settled again. By the way, Leek is a Marmite town - you love it or hate it!
