Gem - many congratulations to your clever GD! That is a significant scholarship. Even if by chance she gets offered a place at the out of catchment school, she can still be proud that she did so well.

You've reminded me that it's "that time" of year when school placements get published. Fingers crossed our GD2 will get a place at the local junior school. She's in Year 3 of the infants' school on the same site, but it doesn't automatically guarantee her a place at the junior school. She isn't in the catchment area for any other school either! You can never take these things for granted, unfortunately.

I keep meaning to update this thread.

GD did in fact get a place at her first choice state school!
I thought the first was the York one which she definitely wouldn't get a place at but in fact it was one nearer to them. They didn't think she would be allocated a place but she did. It is a small 5oo pupil school with a good reputation.

They all talked it over and GD didn't mind at all which school she went to, so in the end they decided to go with the state school option
The independent school then offered a Bursary, but they are sticking with the state school. It is no further away than the independent one.

I hope this is the right place for her, and it will certainly save the family a lot of money over the years.

Gem, that's wonderful news, even if it did turn out to be a difficult choice- it was for all the right reasons. Does this mean that she will be going to the same school as some of her current friends? If so, that's another bonus.

The teacher in me wants all schools to be like the state school your GD has chosen. I don't think big is necessarily beautiful when it comes to having 1,000 to 2,000 pupils in a school. Five hundred sounds plenty.

It has to be the school she feels more to her liking ,
When GS1 went to comp if you remember he was offered a Academy school with a scholarship but wanted to go to the same school as his friends and he loves it
So a right choice for him ,

Your GD is a very clever child Im sure whatever school she chooses she will excel , I think she is one of those people who fits in and will do the very best she can ,
