As I mentioned on Chat, DD and GD inadvertently took our laptop charger home on Thursday. We realised yesterday morning. Lockdown and no laptop are a bad combination for me, so we needed it back!
We live 25 minutes drive away. DD offered to bring it over but with work and home schooling her days are busy. I said after work was fine and that we would meet halfway. We chose a suitable meeting place, slightly nearer them than us. We were to meet SIL at 5.45, to coincide with him picking up a fish and chips order for the family tea.
We arrived, SIL was there. He had not brought the charger. OH had said to me "I hope S doesn't forget to bring the charger", as he has history.
He was most apologetic and said he would go home, get it and bring it over to our house, which he did.
The text I later got from DD2, his wife was simply 'I have no words' !
To put this into context, this is an intelligent man who has done things like this SO MANY times!!
I will list a few:
Thinking I was collecting GD, then aged 6, from school even though it was his childcare day, he and baby GS were in B&Q at collecting time. School phoned me as I hadn't come to collect her. I told them it wasn't my day to. They couldn't get hold SIL, so phoned DD - who was working , in France on a conference. It took her some time to get hold of SIL. She was terrified that something had happened to him and/or and baby. No they were fine. GD was looked after in the school office and her dad eventually collected her.
One day (DD working away again) I went to collect GS, then aged about 18 months, from his nursery. They were not expecting me, SIL had told them he was collecting him!! Now all my 3 GC went to this nursery and they know me well. Rules however state that a child cannot be released to anyone other than the parents unless the nursery are told. The fact that they know you and you know the family password makes no difference. They let me come in and be with GS, and were very apologetic. I told them I worked in childcare for many years, and had had to do the same thing more than once, and that I knew they were right. Once again they could not get SIL on his phone straight away so eventually so spoke to DD, who of course said please let T go with his Grandma. (This time she said she had worried something had happened to me when they rang as she knew I would not be late to collect GS, or if I was woudl have let nursery know)
On two occasions SIL has left work, driven past our village to go to nursery for GS (close to where they live) then presumably to after school club for GD, when they were with me. Once nursery told him GS hadn't been at nursery that day, he then had each time to phone me to explain, get back into the teatime traffic and drive back to collect his children.
I have seen the intricate lists DD leaves SIL when she works away detailing exactly where the children should be each day, what they need with them etc etc.
We went on holiday to Spain with them. SIL had forgotten to bring the credit card he had booked the car with. This caused problems and we had to use OH's card and it ended up costing us all more money!!
I love SIL. He is lovable and charming. It's a good job isn't it!!
