    Names Shortened

Today we heard that B's niece had her second baby girl ,
Her first DD is 3 now and called Autumn Eve
This baby is to be called Olympia Grace ,

I do love the name Olympia but when a baby is born i often wonder what it will be shortened to as they get older ,
I never shorten my children's names but their friends do and i really dont like my DD's name shortened , neither does she but her friends and at work all call her by her shortened name so she accepts it ,

Mine like Daisys cant be shortened and B's i only shorten if both he and my DS are together so they know what B im talking too , although my DS said i use a different tone for eash one of them ,
I think there is only my oldest sister in my family i shorten her name , she is called Gladys but we have always called her Glad
All my nieces and Nephews and their children get their full name ,

GS1 gets his name shortened because that's what he likes and i refer to him as that but if im speaking to him he gets his full name , same with GS2 and GD

All B's side have their names shortened

Do you do this with your children ?

We said today we hope as Olympia gets older they dont shorten her to something like Limpy

I often wish i had called my DD something shorter as no one seems to know how to spell it right and it was quite a long name for a child to learn to spell

Before either of ours were born, hubby said he would like names that couldn't be shortened.

Hubby always gets his full name, but it is only 4 letters. I get a shortened version of my name.
GD1's hubby is called James, and everyone uses his full name.
DS1 has a friend called James, but he has always been known as Jimmy.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.

I'm not keen on Olympia, imagine the teasing if she turns out to be far from athletic! They surely won't shorten it to Limpy So I guess she may end up Ollie to her friends.

We shortened my 2 eldest daughters names from the start. We love the full names, and the shortened ones. DD2's OH always gives her the full first name, he is the only one who does. DD'3s name isnt really shortenable although we do leave off the last ie sometimes.

My mum and her best friend are the only people who call me by my full name. My auntie does sometimes, but hearing OH call me the shortened version she has taken to calling me that more often.

My GD has a beautiful fairly unusual first name. She is known by a more common shortened version, and her parents have used this from the start.
The boys are both known by their full first names and the abbreviations.

I don’t mind names being shortened if the shortened version sounds good. I hope if Olympia’s name does get shortened, it is something like Oly rather than Limpy.

I just think she is in line for teasing , Olympia although i think nice is more what i call a upper crust name not a housing estate name , sounds a bit chavvy for them ,bit like Porcha and Mercedes
Be hopes she doesnt have any disabilities and get called Limpy shouldnt laugh

Like Oma, I always get my full name, but my dad used to lengthen it to a 3 syllable name. OH sometimes lengthens it to a 2 syllable version.

Every one calls DS1 by the short version of his name, apart from one of our friends and a couple of aunts and uncles! We all use the short versions of DILs’ names and GCs’.

My DS2’s name is only 3 letters but his friends have managed to shorten it to one letter! 😀

There are at least 3 versions of GD2’s name and she is very clear about which one she prefers. 😁

My OH's name was John but was always called Jack by his Midland friends. He was actually Christened Henry Arthur John but was to be called John, how stupid is that. I have a very short name but sometimes people put an E on the end, not keen on that. My Sil's family all have nicknames and he was named after his father but the family call him something else. Waiting to see what the new baby will be called.

The first husband of friend of mine was called Nobby. Everyone called him that. It wasn't his name or anything like it.
The oddest part was his dad and brothers were also known as Nobby!!

Plantaholic my late FIL was a John but always known as Jack from when he was small,my hubby was named after him but he was always called John throughout his life.
My eldest son has his name shortened to Si and doesn't seem to mind at all.
My second son as most of you will know was called Ross when he was first born but we had the "Ross fish finger" episode with Simon when he first visited me in the nursing home hence his name being changed to Benn which he is registered as,funnily enough right through school his teachers used to refer to him as Benjamin and he used to have to correct them.DD has a son called Ross so I got what I wanted in the end.
My 2nd GD has her name shortened to Abbie the other boys all have names that cannot be shortened.
I have always been known as my full name throughout the family, but at school some would call me Lottie and if my mum heard them she would always correct them.

Was the surname Clark, by chance Gem? All Nobbys I know have the surname Clark, like ‘Spud’ Taylor and ‘Chalky’ White.

My name is shortened to different versions of Margaret by different people, all except my neighbour over the road, who just can’t!
Both DDs have longish names and I am the only one who uses them. DD1 calls DD2 Alan for some inexplicable reason.
OH gets called by our surname with a ‘y’ on the end by his friends.

Grauntie. I wondered if the surname was Clark. I don’t know the origin of it, but it seems quite routine! A member of our family if always called Leftie. Surname Wright. !
