    The Big Build

Our DS1, DIL and GSs moved from a very nicely cared for small 3-bedroom house about 10 years ago and bought a larger, 4-bedroom house in the same town. But this house was in a dreadful condition. Built in the 1960s it had had nothing done to it since about 1980, but they were looking ahead and were pleased that they could give the boys their own bedroom. They have done various things over the year to improve the condition of it but they always promised themselves that they would do some major alterations when funds allowed.

So finally, the builders were due to start on Monday and the first job would be to take the roof off the garage, utility room and what used to be a playroom, but it now used by GS1 for his electronics. So these room had to be emptied - completely.

We went up Friday lunchtime to help them build a large tin shed in the garden to house all DS's car tools and other stuff. He's recently renovated his little sports car and also has another car waiting for some TLC, so had quite a lot of kit to house safely.

Things never go to plan, and we were only an hour or so into building the shed when DS1 gashed his hand very badly on one of the panels - as Oma commented, they are very sharp! So his MIL took him for treatment while the rest of us carried on as best we could. So it ended up with what was supposed to be a 24-hours trip to help turned into 4 days! I'm covered in bruises from carrying crates, boxes and all sorts of other stuff from the garage to the shed, and by the time we got home on Sunday night OH and I were worn out!

But when the builders arrived at 7.30 on Monday they were very impressed that we had totally cleared all three spaces. By lunchtime they had taken the roof off. So it's all happening. the work is due to finish a week or so before Christmas, and that doesn't include fitting a kitchen. I think we should plan for visitors!!

Gem - my thoughts too!! They have to move out of the house at some point, and were thinking of putting our caravan in the front garden, but with two teenagers, a dog and a cat I think it would be a bit over-crowded. DS1 and dog could easily come here, and possible the rest of the family go to DIL's mum's which is only a mile away from them. DS1 works nearer to us than their house so it would actually be an easier commute for him, and we always seem to have an extra dog around, so that would be ok! We'll wait and see. We've also suggested an AirB&B for a month while the internal demolition takes place!

DS's hand is getting better, but I think it will leave a scar!

Hope DS hand heals quickly without any nasty infections getting in. Tell him it is a bit of an extreme way to get out of clearing the garage but getting a nasty cut. Lol xx

Cripes Daisy! That was above and beyond the call of duty. ๐Ÿ˜ Sorry to hear about no. 1 sonโ€™s hand though. I must say it sounds an exciting project.
