My Sil has been called for Jury Service at our County Town Crown Court, he starts on Monday. Have any of you or members of your family ever been called?

My mum, who is quite interested in the law and politics, always hoped be be asked, before she became too old to.
I remember a few years ago one of my then regular clients was called for jury service. She enjoyed it as the case wasn't traumatic in any way, and she was paid although she couldn't go to work, and a lot of days they finished early and she got her Christmas shopping done in that time!

I was called quite a few years ago. It was very boring as we just sat waiting to be called in then when we were the case was thrown out because of a technicality. The judge sent a message to us asking if we would like to,sit in on a case that didn’t need a jury but just for us to have the experience. That was more interesting.

I've been called twice, but never actually done it. Both on childcare grounds, although I would actually have liked to do it.

My OH has also been called and has sat on a murder trial!

I’ve done it twice and enjoyed it but they weren’t particularly nasty cases.
I found the younger members of the juries tended to fix their verdict as soon as we started deliberations whereas we older folk were more into discussion and listening to all opinions.

I did jury service in July 1976,it was a really hot summer if you remember.
It was a case of GBH.
The courtroom had a glass roof, and the judge adjourned for an so we could have cold drinks and ice creams.

Yes I have been and was away from work for 6 weeks due to the complexity of the case ,I found it a bit intimidating at times , interesting, and at time fascinating a mixture of emotions , it was an armed robbery very unpleasant and at the end of it not enough votes in the jury and the case collapsed and they had to start again this was because a lot of the evidence was circumstantial no definite evidence but the younger end who were similar age to the defendants voting them innocent , phew they were as guilty as anything very frustrating and all the work the police had done for months and months to get them to court was for nothing but I guess that’s the way justice is

How frustrating Qwerty, that was a long case. Sil is hoping they take one look at him and send him home.
