    Elderly Parents

My SIL ' s father rang me earlier he was in a panic , they were out for the day and his Mother lives in Inverness
His sister had rang to say his 87yr old Mother had had a fire in her flat the fire brigade were there and they were putting his mother in a Ambulance then she hung up with no other explanation ,
He tried ringing back but got no answer , so he needed the phone numbers for the Fire brigade and the Hospital up there so he could find out what is happening , they had no signal where they were on either phone to get on Internet ,
I found them and rang him back
Anyway he couldn't get through to Hospital at first so rang Fire Brigade , they told him it had been a cooker fire and she had fallen and hurt her hip and she had smoke inhalation.
He's since heard she has a broken hip and is having surgery this afternoon ,
He's worried sick it's only last year she had a massive aneurysm operated on in her chest .
She lives so far away and his only sister is mainly based in Africa she runs nursing training out there and flits too and from there and UK
His Mother Is adamant she doesn't need a nursing home or to move down hear so what does he do , it's not like it's 1 hour drive away he can't just drop in and he has health problems himself ,
such a worry when your parent is so far away ,

It is a worry Oma ,my parents lived within a bus ride from me so that worked out well .

Our DC generation have been the generation that have moved a lot further away from their parents so situations like this will eventually become more common.

Hope the poor lady recovers from her ordeal and operation
Bring me sunshine in your smile.

Oma - poor lady. I'm glad you were able to give your SIL the numbers he needed to find out how she is. I hope the op goes well and she makes a good recovery. xx

My inlaws are fortunate that we all close by.We are the nearest, just a couple of streets away.
The rest of the family are only minutes away by car.

hope she makes a good recovery Oma.

Daisy it's SIL's Grandmother it was his Father that rang me ,
Qwerty we said the same , she has smoke inhalation that could lead to pneumonia couldn't it and at that age it doesn't go down well .

Sorry, Oma - confused.com here! Have they said if she inhaled a lot of smoke? That's a worry at any age, poor lady.

Sorry to hear this Oma. Elderly parents can be such a worry. Hope it gets sorted for her soon as she must be in agony. With that injury they won't let her home unless everything is on the lower floor. She might also have to have rehab before she's allowed home. Hope she gets better soon.

They didn't Daisy but she's very frail at the best of times and becoming forgetful , but she's a very stubborn lady and refuses help all the time
They are limited on family including SIL my DD & GS1 there are only 10 people in my SIL;s side left now , so no one that can be with her on a regular basis

                        Poor lady
It is a worry and responsibilty having elderly parents dependant on you. At least my mum is only a few miles away.

She has had a full Hip replacement today they said next 48 hours are critical then it will be a long road before she gets home , if she gets home she may have no option but go into a home , time will tell if she pulls through all this ,

Oma - poor lady. It's so hard when there isn't plenty of family support. Will there be any friends who can visit her when she's feeling a bit better, although it sounds as though I may be looking a long way ahead. I hope they're keeping her as comfortable as possible.
