Hello everyone! I’m new here and I’m very pleased to have found this lovely forum. I have two beautiful grand daughters aged 7 and 2 - they keep me very busy one way or another. I enjoy reading, gardening and attempting to learn Italian. I love music most genres but mainly classical. I help out with looking after my grand daughters and have forgotten how tiring a two year old can be. I love it though and feel I am very lucky to have them. Have a good day everyone!
We're delighted you've chosen to join our friendly group of grannies - you will soon get to know us, I'm sure. If there's anything you're not sure about, please ask - we're always here to help.
I'm sure your granddaughters are a great delight, but we forget how much energy a lively two year old has. Do your GDs live near you?
You will find lots of common ground (excuse the pun!) with the gardeners, bookworms and music fans amongst us. Hats off to you for learning a language. I keep going back to trying to learn Spanish, but find it quite hard going.

Than you for the lovely welcome Daisy. Yes, my grand daughters live in the next village to me a couple of miles away, so easy to walk there. I’ve been learning Italian for years now but since the arrival of my girls it has got pushed to the bottom of the pile. I look forward to getting to know like minded grannies on here!
They are 10, (my GD), 7 and 4,
The 7 year old is cousin to the other 2.
I look after each set once a week. All disrupted by lockdown of course, but more or less back to normal now. I am lucky that they all live within 40 minutes drive.
Do your GDs live close to you? 2 year olds are tiring, but I miss having such a little one, my youngest grandchild starts school next month

Yes, they live a couple of miles away in the next village so not far at all. The little 2 year old starts preschool sometime in September virus permitting. We all have to get used to a new normal don’t we? My two year old is always on the go which leaves us shattered when she’s gone 😄. We are trying to work out what will happen regarding school picks etc when big one goes back in two weeks.
Fairyqueen - How lovely that your GDs live within walking distance. I bet when they're a bit older they will love popping in to see you. Do you look after them at all?
I've got 4 GCs - two boys who live about 65 miles away. They are 17 and 15 - the 17 year old's provisional driving licence arrived yesterday. It doesn't seem 5 minutes since he was crawling round on the floor going "brrrmmm, brrrmmmm". The two girls live about 8 miles away, and in normal times I look after them two days a week. The older one will be 10 on Tuesday and the little one is 6 ½.

Welcome Fairy Queen. I love the name! How lovely to have young grandchildren. I have three. Two boys and a girl. My daughter and son in law have the two eldest. They are age 20 and 18. My son and daughter in law have the youngest one, who is 9. They live about an hour and a half away from me, but only five minutes from each other. I hope you will be very happy as a new member of GRU. Welcome once again. 👍🏼
Always face the sunshine and the shadows fall behind you.
Welcome Fairyqueen, I am a Yorkshire woman living in Holland, I have lived here for so long I suppose I am Dutch as well as Yorkshire. I have 2 GD's, the eldest is almost 15 years old and the youngest 11. I looked after them 2 days a week before school days then met them from school when they started school, they slept here often as DS1 was away a lot for his work and DIL was still studying. In fact the children used to say had 2 houses! They only live in the next village so I get to see them often, they were here last week for 3 days, I usually get out and about with them but we were in the midst of a heat wave so didn't get out as planned.
I have only been a member here for a year and been made to feel very welcome, I do know Gem from long ago.
Thank you so much for all the lovely replies. It’s wonderful hearing how you are all so blessed with your grandchildren. I look after my two 2- 3 times a week but my daughter is going to rearrange times and days when they both resume school in 2 weeks time. I really look forward to getting to know you all and being part of such a friendly and warm community.
bit of info on my name. It’s taken from a Bob Dylan song called ‘soon after midnight’ where Bob apparently has a date with a Fairy Queen. Big Bob Dylan fan. 😊 thank you all once again for a lovely welcome! Xx
Hello Fairyqueen Welcome! I’m Nanna to 4 beautiful blond boys 7 and 5 years in one family and 4 and 2 years in the other. Both families live within 20 minutes drive and we too help with childcare. I’m learning Portuguese as we have a second home there, I also speak French, we used to have a house in South of France. We also have a Motorhome which has been very useful this year with travel restrictions. I enjoy crafts, sewing, knitting, crochet, painting and read a lot. We live in a small village 80 houses. We have one acre garden and keep chickens, grow fruit and veg. Our neighbours call us Gerry and Margot, (from the Good Life!), we call them The Dingles 🤣! I’m sure you’ll soon get to know us on here. Some really like housework others , like me, don’t think much to that! 🤪😂!
