    Blankets for the Homeless

A group has just set up in our village to make squares either knitted or crochet then sewn together, to make blankets. I've loads of wool left from abandoned projects. I can at least knit squares. Something useful to do on an evening.
I find it hard to just sit and watch telly, I have to be doing something.

What a good idea GJ. Helping the homeless - none of us can even imagine what it must be like being out overnight in winter.
Good to have a project too. I would like something to do of that sort to occupy me, but have no skills!

Skills are not just knitting, sewing etc Gemini. You have lots of skills, setting up GRus being one of them kindness and a big heart.

Gem I think you do enough with GRU and your minute taking plus delivering stuff for them

I just heard a report on the tv news that 1 in 25 are homeless. That I find is very worrying.

As you know I work with charities working with the homeless. I think that 1 in 25 is probably not an accurate figure to be honest it is likely lower than that however there are the “hidden homeless” who are people who are sofa surfing, living in temporary accommodation, living with relatives etc. Also remember there are some people who would rather live outside than return to their own countries when they are denied the right to stay. I am not making a judgement on this at all but that greatly raises the figures. I know of a place not too far from me where there are at least thirty young men “camping” and when asked why they do not take offers of help they respond that they do not want to be in the system as they will be deported.

                  How sad Zizi.
I find knitting and crochet very therapeutic to start with, then my hands hurt. It would take me ages.

This is the first year I have not been involved with delivering blankets and winter woolies to the homeless in Liverpool areas due to me retired now from the Charity I worked for and not having access to the surplus blankets donated etc.
My eldest son however who works for a well known Supermarket has been out on the streets taking donations of hats/coats/gloves and prepacked sandwiches to the homeless during these past 2 weeks anyother food stuffs are sent to the local foodbanks and distributed that way.
I wish I could knit but this disfunctional arm has me unable to contribute.
