    Audio books

Last night I finished listening to the last cd (11 in total) of 'The Book Thief' by Markus Zusak. I listen to stories when I go to bed to help me sleep. I used to read books but since my eye trouble I find it harder. I listen on my personal cd player, so create a vacuum...no outside stimuli. Therefore in my own little bubble.

This story moved me to tears. The narrator suited the story & the writing was so descriptive that I was transported from my bed over to Germany & was voyeur to the troubled lives of the German people in the war. My heart went out, yet again, to the humiliation & cruelty to the Jews. The character of the narrator was Death. Wow.

This story carried a few punches, & encouraged the listener (me) to view the lives of families in Germany from a totally different perspective. The parallel to the family values I'm familiar with were so similar. Mothers grieving the loss of their soldier sons, parents' anxiety over the future of their children. The trials & yribulations of a growing young girl. The horror of war...whichever nationality. I laughed, I cried ...what more can you want from a story? Sympathetically written but boy this is up there with the best of stories for me.

That sounds such a good story Nana.

Audio books are my mum's lifeline. Due to macular degeneration she can't see to read or do puzzles any more. I choose and reserve them for her online, pick them up at our local library, then take them to her. Like Nana she has really been transported by some of the stories.

I read the Bookthief with my reading group. One of the few books that everyone enjoyed.

I sometimes listen to audio books in the car, especially on long journeys. They give a completely different dimension to the story line.

I haven't read the book, but I can remember the film being made.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
Sometimes I forget to like posts, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.
