    Groupon etc

Do you subscribe to Groupon, Living Social, Wowcher or any of the other discount offer groups?
I have used Groupon and Living Social, several times.
I have had some very good deals both on goods and experiences.

We have also had some not so good deals, as in limited choice on menus due to the deal, or an inferior room at a hotel. You also have to be careful to remember to use the deal before the expiry date, or you lose your money.
We have friends who go for many weekends away on deals, and hardly ever eat out on anything but deals. They obviously know how to work the system!

Any good, or bad experiences to share?

Yes we use them all the time for short breaks and meal deals , we have had not so good rooms and limited menu too , depends where we go . I once had to complain that the room we were put in was a glorified storage room ,the girl on the desk said we'll you are on a Groupon deal , so I pointed out we paid our money the same as everyone else and without us they would have empty rooms ,I insisted in seeing the manager , needless to say we were upgraded . We have also had some wonderful rooms one we took in Harrogate was a executive suite it was magnificent and the meals were from the full menu , so as I say depends where you go I suppose it's pot luck but you don't have to put up with second rate service

We use Living Social for deals on short breaks, in fact we have just come back from one. Had a great deal on a lovely hotel in a junior suite, wonderful, food and lovely location. Have also used them for deals on restaurants, afternoon teas etc. all have been very good, no bad experiences yet

I've never used any of them, so can't speak from personal experience, but anecdotally, I believe there have been a lot of complaints from people using deals for photography sessions. I suppose you have to read the small print!

Qwerty - what a pity - you look forward to something which should be fun and give you lasting beautiful pictures - and it all goes wrong.

Have used groupon, living social and Amazon local and have had good experiences mostly. I do check prices as I nearly applied for one meal deal offer at a Michelin starred restaurant that only actually saved £1 so wasn't worth the various restrictions. Got a good deal on a very good quality Argon oil a few years back. Have been looking at the photography offers but will give it a miss now!

Shemadee - I'm sure they're not all bad! The thing to watch out for is what is actually included in the way of prints or digital media within the price - if anything. If the offer only covers the cost of the actual sitting, you need to check the prices and sizes of prints or digital options. It's also a good idea to ask how long a sitting lasts, especially with children as it can take them a little while to settle down and start relating to the photographer.

We use Secret Escapes but they are not particularly cheap some of the time. We quite often use theatre meal deals in London where you get a limited menu dinner and theatre tickets. Sometimes the seats are not great though but it is worth it to see some of the great shows.
